I am not from the area but I do take several trips to the Adirondacks each year to hike, fish, paddle, snowshoe... on several trips over the years I have come across canoes near ponds fairly far from any roads. I was curious what the proper etiquette is. Is it, use them and return them to where you found them or, it’s not yours so keep moving? Since I wasn’t sure I have always erred on the side of caution and not used them, but was curious.

GPU clearance and CPU clearance for these computer cases
I want to build a premium general-purpose office computer and an entry-level gaming computer. I want to use one of the following cases since they have the same designs.
AVF CLASSIQUE SERIES ACCS560-B7 (BLUE)
AVF CLASSIQUE SERIES ACCS560-B7 (GREEN)
AVF CLASSIQUE SERIES ACCS560-BR (RED)
For the premium office PC, I want to put in a CPU cooler (air cooler, preferably no lights or RGB) compatible with the LGA 1151 socket. The CPU cooler can end up to be 117 mm tall depending on the CPU cooler that I choose. For the entry-level gaming computer, I want to install either an Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti (MSI model is 250 mm long), AMD Radeon R9 270 (supposed to be only 210 mm long), or an AMD Radeon R9 370 (221 to 239 mm long for the XFX model). I want to know the GPU clearance and the CPU clearance for these computer cases.

Oak Mountain
I had a chance to ski Oak the other week, first time I've been back there since 1988!!
While the facilities have changed with the new lodge, 4 person chairlift, snowmaking, the vibe is just the same.
Such a fun, friendly mountain, so many families.
I happened to catch Oak on a good powder day, knee deep untracked on a couple trails, Barbie and Ken sized bumps on a few, and fresh lines everywhere all day long.
There was a mild breakable crust on the bottom third of the mountain, but my Wattea's handled that easily.
I would recommend Oak to any level skier, just a fun, comfortable place.

I have read up on the history of Grumman canoes. In the mid-1940"s when Grumman"s chief tool engineer, William Hoffman decided he would take a canoe trip into the Adirondacks. Hoffman’s personal canoe was a 13-foot Old Town wood-and-canvas that had seen some wear; his trip took him on a portage from Limekiln Lake to Squaw Lake as written in online Gear Junkie.
I would like to see the route on a map if it exists.

Trip recommendations -- PA
I'm looking for a central destination for 2 guys in WNY, 1 in CNY and 1 in the DC area to meet in Pennsylvania and do maybe 30--35 mile backpack over a 4 day period in late April, early May. All experienced backpackers. We can drop cars as needed. Hopefully we can find a suitable destination that's scenic and not too crowded although we don't need complete isolation.

Sounds like the expanded bear canister regulation, as well as the requirement to camp at designated sites only in the Eastern/Central High Peaks, won't happen until next year at the earliest.
I'm not sure what the "need for a public hearing" means- there already was a public comment period that include comments on the proposed regs as part of the UMP amendment process for the High Peaks UMP. The proposed changes to the regulations were included as part of this process. Maybe someone decided it was cheeky to include regulatory changes with the UMP process, as the two are separate things?

Swiping right is simple, but on the way to finding your new true love (or just a date, if you prefer to keep things light), nothing comes as easy as you hope, even in the digital world. Kaspersky researchers evaluated the risks and challenges on the path to romance and found that cyber criminals are no strangers to love affairs.
Popular dating apps used worldwide, such as Tinder and Badoo, often become a bait used to spread mobile malware or retrieve personal data to later bombard the users with unwanted ads or even spend their money on expensive paid subscriptions. Such files have nothing to do with legitimate apps, as they only use the name and sometimes the design of authentic dating services.
The analysis of malware using the names of over 20 popular dating applications and the keyword ‘dating’ showed 1963 unique files were spread in 2019 under the guise of legitimate applications. Notably, two thirds of them were masking under Tinder (1262 files) and another sixth was linked to Badoo (263 files); both are applications recognized worldwide.
The danger these malicious files bring varies from file to file, ranging from Trojans that can download other malware to ones that send expensive SMS, to adware, making it likely every ping a user gets is some sort of annoying ad notification rather than a message from a potential date.
For instance, one of the applications that at first glance looks like Tinder is in fact a banking Trojan that constantly requests Accessibility service rights, and upon getting them, grants itself all rights necessary to steal money from the user. Another names itself as ‘Settings’ right after installation, shows a fake ‘error’ message and later disappears, with a high likelihood it will return with unwanted ads a few days later.

“Love is one of those topics that interests people universally, and, of course, that means that cybercriminals are also there. Online dating has made our lives easierand yet uncovered new risks on the path to love. We advise users to stay attentive and use legal versions of applications that are available in official application stores. Falls Brook Yurts
Does anyone know if Falls Brook Yurts (Irishtown/Minerva area, southeast of Stony & Sherman Ponds) are still in operation? If not, are the yurts still there? Is the bench made of skis still on that trail? Their website does not work anymore & the last mention I've seen is from someone who stayed there in 2017.

Winter hiking/camping

I’m brand new to the forum so hopefully I’m in the right place for the topic. I’m looking for some advice on trails for this time of year. Our plan was to spend 2-3 days tent camping and wanted to see if anyone knew the conditions.

Short swing trail
Hey guys, I'm going up to pharaoh lake wilderness in may for a three nighter with my son. I think I'm going to come up Thursday afternoon and hike in to tubmill marsh leanto. The question I have is if that leanto is full are there any spots to camp nearby? I know there are none by the leanto but what about down the trail? The next day I'm going to pharaoh lake leanto 3,4 and Saturday we will head to rock pond with sunday the hike out back to short swing trailhead. I'm guessing we will be coming in the dark so I want to make sure I can get a camping spot without to much trouble.

Missing Site 69 sign
Hey all,
We hung our Site 69 sign @ the Chapel Pond campground area in early Dec. and we left to hike Giant the next AM and forgot it and it was gone when we went back to look for it the next day so if u have it we’ll meet u @ Baxter Mtn. Tavern and buy u shots of yr choice upon its safe return. Happy hiking and happy 69ing. Peace.

Extract Brook, SPWA, 5 Feb, 2020
Fortunately, I had some time on this beautiful day to take a solo snowshoe hike up Extract Brook in the Siamese Ponds Wilderness Area. This is an old logging road/cart path that leads away from the site of the Griffin Tannery. The unmarked path leads about two miles into the wilderness before ending abruptly alongside the brook.
To get to this special spot, I drove down the icy, but well sanded, Griffin Rd. and parked by the bridge. Thanks to the Wells Highway Dept. for plowing this road so well.
The path along Extract Brook starts on private land, so a short bushwhack is required from the bridge. Heading uphill, the yellow paint blazes stand out.
Bushwhacking through the evergreen forest was enjoyable. The snow was only about 6" deep. It was icy/crusty and very noisy. I wouldn't be sneaking up on any critters today. :)
The property line makes some crazy turns, but was well marked and fairly easy to follow.
Too soon, I came out on the path. I turned left and followed the deer tracks deeper into the wilderness.
The path comes close enough to Extract Brook to explore a little. There was plenty of ice, but enough open water to give a hint to the character of this small mountain stream.
The path was pretty obvious through the mixed hemlock and spruce forest.
It then pulls away from the brook to avoid some steep terrain. As I moved through a stand of hardwoods, I really had to pay attention to keep on the track.
The path then swings close to the creek in a magnificent stand of hemlocks. There are some massive erratics along this section. They never cease to amaze me. The power to move a house sized boulder of granite! :eek:
A little further up the way, the route starts to get a little brushy. It's hard to believe that 130 years ago, this was a bustling "highway" crowded with dozens of tannebarkers working the woods and wagons with loads of hemlock bark coming down to the mill.
About two miles up the brook, the path abruptly stops just before the slopes of Buckhorn and Macomber Mts. pinch the valley through a narrow gorge.
This is where I was planning to continue my adventure to a beaver flow on the slopes of Buckhorn Mt. Unfortunately, my achilles tendon has been acting up and it was telling me to take it easy. No worries, I cleared the snow off a stump, sat down and had a sandwich. What a great day to be out and about on a lightly traveled path deep in the heart of the Siamese Ponds Wilderness.

As a sales engineer, i need to travel around meet my clients etc, so at the end of the month, i need to do my claims, but sometimes my receipt keep on MIA every single time need to do my claims. Do you guys have any ideas on how to solve my problems?

Camp Chair
Never thought it would come to this but I am looking for input on camp chairs.
I am a Clydesdale, which in bicycling terms means over 200 lbs. In fact I run about 250. My back is shot and the camp chair is a saving grace while canoeing. I bought an XL Big Mans chair from REI, which promptly broke the 2nd time I used it.
The Helinox that is so widely regarded showed up today. I got like maybe one cheek in it. Plus, it leaned too far back for my back - like to sit more upright.
So, I am looking for a chair that let's me sit more upright, more than 14" off the ground (is 18" asking for too much?) - that fits the Clyde class and doesn't weigh 10 lbs. Durability is a plus.
Any recommendations?

Wondering if anyone on the forum has any experience hiking into Raquette Lake from big moose via West Mountain. I’m looking to make a short backpacking trip thru hike of the trail starting at the Judson Road in Big Moose Lake and finishing on Uncas Road in Raquette.

Broomstick Lake, FLWF, 3 Feb, 2020
After a week with the flu, it was good to get back out in the woods and scratch my itch to hit up Broomstick Lake in the Ferris Lake Wild Forest. While still not at 100%, the nice short walk to Broomstick was medicine for my soul. Two weeks ago, Tredhed and I attempted this hike and the parking lot wasn't plowed out. Today, we took my truck, figuring I'd have to bust through a snowbank. Not so, our early arrival at the Rt. 10 trailhead found the parking lot well plowed out. Thanks to whoever does this. It's a great thing.
After signing into the woods, Tredhed and I started the 300' ascent up to the lake on a trail that was liberally marked with yellow disks.
The trail conditions were excellent. A well packed trail made for easy snowshoeing. There were only a few areas of blowdown closer to the lake, but they were easily bypassed.
In no time, we arrived at the outlet of Broomstick Lake and the end of the trail. A band of lake effect snow reminded us that winter still has a good grip on this part of Fulton County.
No winter visit to Broomstick Lake is complete without a quick visit to the icefalls on the west end of the lake. We quickly walked the 1/4 mile across the ice to the far shore and found the icefalls. While not as large as those at Pinnacle Creek, these were still pretty neat.
What's different about these icefalls is that you can actually crawl behind them and get a very unique perspective.
After spending a few minutes snapping pictures, we headed back across the lake. Just as we were nearing the shore, we met Kathy and Sue who were headed out to the icefalls. I joked as we had met Kathy at our last hike into 9 Corner Lake a few weeks ago. If this happens again, I'll start to worry she's stalking us. :)
After exchanging pleasantries, Tredhed and I headed to the designated campsite for a look around.
We could see that Kathy and Sue were making good progress across the lake.
All that was left to do was point our snowshoes downhill and walk out to the trailhead. While it was a short hike, the trip to the icefalls sure was the icing on the cake (no pun intended). It was a great morning to catch a few hours of time in the woods and clear my head of all the funk that's been swimming around for the past two weeks. Thanks to Tredhed for putting up with my uncharacteristic glacial pace. Can't wait until the next hike.
