West Branch of the Sacandaga Cable Hazard
On July 2nd I paddled down from Whitehouse on the W B Sac. At approximately a mile to 1.5 miles below Nine Mile Creek there is a cable down across most of the W B Sacandaga River. At 5,000 CFS on the Hope Gage (Two gates partially opened at the dam in Wells) and with the flow of the W B Sacandaga at bank full, there is about twenty feet on river left to duck the cable. ¾ of the way across the river the cable is submerged. Traveling downstream the cable is difficult to visualize.
I have contacted DEC. Please pass along to your paddling groups.
