Hi yall - posting here because DEC rangers don't seem to want to pick up their phones or return calls. I'm heading up to Pharaoh Lake tomorrow for a two nighter. Went out last year in January and had a great time, so this year I decided to bring my brother along for his first snow camping experience.
I know there have been a lot of warm days recently (and it'll be relatively warm while we're there too) and I'm a little worried the ice might be compromised. I'm realize I'm probably being overly cautious here, but I'm from MD and I don't have a lot of lake ice experience. I know the usual caveats about being cautious at the margins and avoiding inlets and outlets, but overall, the ice should still be good, right?
This warm spell really is a bummer. I was a little under equipped for last year (lows of 5 and highs of 20) so I geared up proper for this year (new bag, pad, jacket, fleece)... only to see the forecast of lows around 20 and highs around 40....
