We are planning to finish the Fire Tower challenge this year and decided on Vanderwhacker for the first of 2018. There was more fresh snow then we expected but we were prepared. Moose Pond Club Rd was inaccessible even to 4x4 vehicles I would think, a tracked vehicle went out to the private land while we were there, which was pretty neat. Overall we didn't enjoy this hike as much as we normally do, we are in a spring state of mind so the snow isn't as enjoyable as it was a month ago :-). I think we'll try and finish up the Catskills until we know at least the snow is mostly gone in the ADK!
