an old photo or two...

Two photos from the 1920s or thereabouts. They are of interest in that they show the extent of the logging operations in the Johns Brook Valley. The first is of Big Slide from Gothics. It shows That the logging went all the way to the base of the summit cliff on Big Slide. Everything below the cliff and to the east was cut - including the summit of what I have always called Brother #4. Mel Hathaway's lodge (current site of JBL) is apparent on Johns Brook...The second photo is from near the summit of Big Slide and is looking towards Lower WolfJaw. It shows extensive cutting as well on almost all of LWJ as well as the ridge (foreground) of Brother #4. It also shows the future track of Bennies slide.
