Alabama Swamps (Western New York)

Located between the Buffalo and Rochester metro areas, the Alabama Swamps include a 10,000+ acre national wildlife refuge (Iroquois NWR) and multiple state wildlife management areas (Tonawanda, John White, and Oak Orchard WMAs). More than 250 species of birds have been recorded here including bald eagles.

Having spent time here the past four months, this has been one of my go-to spots for regional recreation during the coronavirus outbreak. The birdwatching and wildlife viewing opportunities are exceptional.
