Ok, what's with the Military Jets?

This past Thursday afternoon I was sitting in a lawn chair by my Camp when a military jet flew right over the top of me faster than speed of sound. Not much higher than the mountain I'm one. Within the next 15 minutes 11 more flew between me and Goodnow mountain (Newcomb).
In the past they've flown by before but never this many. I called my wife back home to see if there was a national emergency but she hadn't heard of any. Any ideas as to what went on? It was Thursday August 24th at 1 PM.
