Encouraged by cooler temperatures, going to fish next week first time on ponds with fly vs. spinning/LC Wabblers. Have a reel with sinking line. Unless I see fish rising early or late day, assuming wet flies and streamers imitating bait fish is my brook trout approach. Have not done this before. In fact, I'll be stopping in the Ray Brook-Placid-Wilmington area at fly shops to get the appropriate flies.
Not mentioning where so no worries. But a few technique questions.
if trolling in addition to casting, is line twist an issue with fly line? How to prevent?
Even with sinking line, should I be considering split shot to get deeper or get deeper quicker? Not sure how deep I will need to get - it's really still summer.
Can you double up on streamers, dropper-like but both submerged since sinking line?
Any other suggestions for a stillwater fly newcomer at the end of August somewhere in the Adirondacks?
Thanks.
