Kaspersky’s AV solution now more accessible to Malaysians via MyDigi Subscriptions

Amid the increasing threats targeting online users, global cybersecurity company Kaspersky offers monthly subscriptions for its anti-virus solution to Digi customers for as low as RM3 a month.

The company collaborates with Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) to offer the telco’s customers Kaspersky’s robust cybersecurity solution across multiple platforms – Android, PC, and Mac via MyDigi Subscriptions by EasyAdd service.

The subscription is part of Kaspersky’s xSP for the telecommunication companies, which allows telco customers convenient access to the brand’s security products.

According to Yeo Siang Tiong, General Manager for Southeast Asia at Kaspersky, with more IT security breaches being reported in the press, the company wants to make it easier for consumers to find effective ways to protect their privacy, finances, and digital assets from malware and internet-based attacks.

“It is a hard-true fact that most individual users would spend premium on physical protective cases on their smartphones, and seldom they consider to spend the similar amount or much lesser on a security software. Despite the fact that they do many transactions involving personal data like bill payments, credit card transactions, online banking, online shopping, e-wallet, money transfer and others. But after the several data breaches being reported currently, I hope the alarm is now sounding louder,” Yeo said.

“Through our partnership with Digi, we hope to change the consumer mindset --- that cybersecurity is cumbersome and tedious --- by offering them our security solutions at a very reasonable rate, and through a single point of subscription which enhances their digital lifestyle,” he added.

The Kaspersky Anti-Virus exclusive packages available on MyDigi Subscriptions are:
Android (Trial) Currently Free, auto renewal at RM3/month upon completion of trial
Android monthly subscription RM3/month
Android – 6 months subscription RM14 for 6 months
PC or Mac monthly subscription RM5.50/month
PC or Mac – 6 months subscription RM45 for 6 months

MyDigi Subscriptions’ customer experience is kept simple where a single login from MyDigi is all they need to start subscribing to the services of their choice. Navigation is also made easy as the services are grouped under four different categories - entertainment, productivity, learning and lifestyle. Customers can also manage their subscriptions seamlessly in one bill, where payment can be made via their phone bill or prepaid credit. This new service can also be accessed by non-Digi users via https://www.easyadd.my/product/kaspersky. Debit and credit card payments are accepted.

Just for Future Reference

Despite what some maps may show as a navigable route, they may really not be navigable. For example, I would not try kayaking the West Branch of the Sacandaga from Shaker Place to Wells without some serious experience and planning.

Always double check before embarking on a trip and be sure to bring safety gear like life jackets, GPS, maps, and compasses.

Explosion Info?

I finally got to Cascade and Porter after avoiding the parking and crowd issues. A Friday morning after leaf season helped on both accounts, in fact I had complete solitude atop Cascade (my friend is afraid of heights and the openness unnerved her so she waited near treeline), and two of us enjoyed a long, quiet lunch on Porter.
While on Porter we heard and actually felt an explosion that had us speculating what could have caused it and wonder if anyone could confirm or deny our many guesses. The most plausible I have is gravel mining or blasting rock at a construction job. It happened at 12:06 pm Friday, came from the west/northwest.

Looking for a mentor

I am a beginning hunter with NYS hunting license and rifle experience. Looking to find a mentor who would be willing to take me on a hunt or two this season, I don't even have to bring my rifle if you would prefer. I would just like to shadow and learn. I am looking for someone who enjoys hunting at least a few miles from trail head and plans to camp overnight in tents. All fair chase stalking type hunting. Please feel free to contact me and start a conversation. A little about myself, I am a 35 year old new father with an Engineering degree. I am in decent physical shape and am currently training to get in better shape still. I have backpacked once before in Adirondacks a few years back and loved the area. Again make no mistakes about it I am pretty much as green as they come, but I am an exceptional learner and up for the challenge. I can follow directions and have very little ego when it comes to who is in charge.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Enjoy your season!

Moose's Hoof, WLWF, 24 Oct, 2019

I last visited the Moose's Hoof in the Wilcox Lake Wild Forest four and a half years ago and have been looking for an excuse to revisit the area. Today, Tredhed and I had a chance to work the hike into our busy schedules. After spending the night at the Hamilton County Mosquito Preserve, we hit the Rt. 8 trailhead at a reasonable hour.

As we signed into the woods, I was surprised to see that 33 entries were in the trail register before ours. It's good to see people checking out this neat area.

The blue disked trail heads uphill, away from the noise of Rt. 8.

Wednesday morning's rain really made Georgia Brook howl.

The Algonquin Snowblazers have done some recent work to clear some of the blowdown along the trail. Thanks folks!

In .5 miles or so, we came to the junction with the Georgia Brook trail and began our bushwhack. We soon crested the wooded peak of the lesser "hoof".

Dropping into the saddle between the two hooves, we noticed some really neat erratics. This one kind of has a Halloween face in it?

Heading up out of the saddle, we soon started to see open rock.

In no time, we crested the 1645' peak of the "Hoof" and the scenery was pretty neat.

I really enjoyed some of the fragile mosses that were on the large expanse of open rock.

The views of Buckhorn Mt. were spectacular.

After a while on top of the "Hoof", we headed down to the saddle and went downhill to the hunter's trail. The informal hunter's trail took us near the trail junction. It was a short walk back to the trailhead and a hot cup of coffee.

We spent about a couple hours in the woods this morning on a short hike up this small hill. The views were great and the weather was even better. Not a bad way to spend a fantastic fall morning.

Rocky Peak Ridge bushwhack from Rte 73.

This hike was inspired by Gregory Karl, who is an intrepid student of the wonders of the Adirondacks, as long as the wonders in question are off-trail. Greg posted a trip report on the forum many years ago and I mentally filed it away for future reference. Recently, I communicated with Greg regarding the route he took. For mastergrasshopper and Boghollow and I yesterday was the big day.

In the pitch dark we hopped over the guard rail across from the Round Pond parking lot. Under headlamp glow we immediately hit a set of cliffs, then another set. We worked our way up very steep terrain and, being overdressed for the occasion, we quickly overheated in the 32 degree temperatures. As false dawn began to light up the woods the terrain flattened out and everywhere the eye fell was a riot of gorgeous colors, complete with a stream flowing though it all. As the hike unfolded the riot of color would be a constant theme.

We ascended upon swaths of open rock and autumn gave way to winter progressively as the rock became slick with ice. Dustings of snow gradually morphed into a carpet 6 inches deep with trees that were completely encrusted. The brilliant sun turned the snow into rain under blue skies and we became soaked. There were only three colors: white, green and blue.

We zig-zagged from swaths of ice-covered rock through thick and gnarly woods and switched from one ridge to another as the adventure unfolded. On the final viewing area it was as if we could reach out and touch the people sunning themselves on the summit. I was freezing but fresh mitts, noon-day sun, a 2nd wool hat and churning legs kept me comfortable as we dropped into a final col then ascended to the summit.

We immediately stripped off our soaked clothing and changed into fresh layers while the perfectly warm and dry sun bathers looked on curiously. For a half-hour we sat there and savored the incredibly rich and varied experience we had just had. We hiked out to New Russia, which was amazing in its own right.

The all important PICTURES

Trap Dyke conditions for Oct/Nov

Anyone know what conditions are like on Trap Dyke, now that the snow and ice have started? Is Trap Dyke slide more of an ice climb or can it be done in reasonable safety with crampons only? Not enough ice to warrant just boots?

Winter camping suggestions?

I haven't done much winter camping, but I'm looking to change that with some new equipment I just purchased (0 degree bag and hot tent, for starters).
I wanted to start off slow, dragging a pulk sled into some places where (A) I can get my car pretty close and (B) maybe piggybacking on some snowmobile trails to make the drag a bit easier. I've done some tests with snowshoes and powder and it's like dragging cinderblocks. Does anyone who does this sort of thing have any good suggestions? I know that'd kind of vague, but a fer-instance of what I'm looking for would be the forked lake area, where you can park at the end where they stop plowing the seasonal road and then wander around from there.

Playing Out A Hunch

Not really a trip report but just a few photos to share.. You gotta love it when you pour over a few topo maps looking for someplace new to explore, and have an off-trail hunch that turns out to be true...

Some pretty sweet views only a 10 minute bushwhack from the state trail...

Hey well what do you know, a stashed Grumman (with no paddles)...

Do you see what I see?

Yes, I see a paddle...

It worked out ok...

Sunset was pretty awesome...

Campsite wasn’t bad either...

Morning was pretty nice also...

Morning pano...

Any killer reserve-able Lean To sites?

I'm looking for some help in planning a trip next summer for our annual ADK pilgrimage. We've got a bigger size group (8-9), and I'm looking to secure a Lean To. I know most aren't reserve-able, but it would save us a bunch of time.

Any thoughts?

Brook Trout Lake

I was wondering if anyone might have some input on how to get to the trail head for Brook Trout Lake if you were coming in from Wakely Damn Recreational Area/Cedar River Road near the golf course as opposed to the other entrance near Limekiln lake. I have been told that the ride is about 18 miles down the dirt road but I am not sure if there are any particular turnoffs along the away or how well marked it is. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Off-season camping options after Labor Day at state campgrounds, etc?

Does anyone know the current standing on the topic of off-season camping after Labor Day at state campgrounds, etc?

(Also, does anyone know if there are any private campgrounds open after Labor Day?)

We have a truck camper and would like to know if it is allowed at any state campgrounds off season. (We do not need water or bathroom facilities as we have holding tanks and would carry our own water.)

(Fish Creek is no longer officially open into Nov and everything looks like it closes up by Oct., hence the question as to what the current options are as the original thread was 17 years old!!!!)

We are aware that the camping options would be primitive camping and self-contained - but being self contained and a semi low footprint, we like to hike - and hence, knowing where we could camp after Labor Day would be very helpful and allow us to camp "off season" and enjoy the many trails that exist across the great state of NY.

Also, would be interested in knowing of any off-season camping opportunities in other areas of NY (as well as southern/western VT and MA as well if anyone knows of such.)

And I guess the question actually might become - Where can one camp/park overnight legally in the ADKs if they are self-contained want to sleep and hike/ski in the ADKs off-season into late Fall/Winter/early Spring?

Thank you!

Center, Clear & John Pond, SPWA, 16 Oct, 2019

On Wednesday, I made my annual fall pilgrimage to visit my daughter at school in the St. Lawrence valley. Tredhed accompanied me this time as we had some business in Saranac Lake this morning. I've had this NW corner of the Siamese Ponds Wilderness Area on my radar for some time and this was a perfect opportunity to scratch an old itch. Leaving the Hamilton County Mosquito Preserve rather early, we arrived at the Indian Lake area remote trailhead around 8:30.

We decided to do the loop hike clockwise this morning for no other reason than our last leg from John Pond to the trailhead was supposed to be flat. First, we backtracked a hundred yards down the woods road to Wilderness Rd.

We walked the 300 yds. up the road until we came to the trailhead for Clear Pond.

We headed up the trail which was liberally marked with yellow disks.

About half way to Clear Pond, we noticed a blue disked trail heading off to the north in the direction of Center Pond. We hadn't planned on this being an option, as the trail doesn't show up on any maps. Figuring it can't be too far to Center Pond, we struck out down the trail, crossing the outlet of Clear Pond within a few minutes.

After 10 minutes of walking, the trail came close enough to Center Pond for us to walk out on the bog mat and admire the scenery.

Backtracking 10 minutes to the loop trail, we then continues the remaining half-mile to the red disked Clear Pond spur. A hundred yards later, we were at the designated campsite on Clear Pond with a nice view of Bullhead Mt. and looming storm clouds to the southeast.

We checked out the cool rocks at the outlet and the small flotilla of duct taped john boats and then set off down the loop trail for our next destination. On imagery, I noticed a rocky area on a small hill to the east of Clear Pond. I've seen dozens of trip reports and blogs about the John Pond ledges, but none about this little hill. Now, I know why.

We easily accomplished the short 1/4 mile bushwhack up the tiny 150' high hill and easily found the open rock. The problem was that there were no views; the trees were too tall and the hill wasn't tall enough. I did enjoy the delicate carpet of moss and this lonely red pine seedling.

After sneaking some peaks through the trees at Bullhead Mt., we headed back down the hill to the loop trail.

As we approached John Pond, the hardwoods gave way to some beautiful red pine (source of the sapling on the small hill?). Next, we took the red disked spur trail to the lean-to site. The lean-to was well situated back from the shore of the pond and was immaculate.

After a small snack and signing the lean-to log book, we explored the shore of John Pond. We'll get to those ledges some day...

Heading out of John Pond, we passed the Puffer Pond cut-off trail and then an old foundation. As we crossed the John Pond outlet, the trees changed again. This time, white pine was the dominant species. A short while later, we came to the much publicized graveyard. It was sad to see the graves of 14 yr. old Eliza and 9 year old Peter, but very cool that they're not forgotten.

After paying our respects, it was time to walk out the 1.5 miles back to the parking lot. Once again, the trees changed, this time to white spruce as the trail paralleled the John Pond outlet marshes. The miles went by quickly on this very flat old road.

In no time, we were back to the vehicle and ready to continue our journey up to St. Larry's valley. We saw a lot of stuff on this loop hike. The side trips were enjoyable and the terrain wasn't difficult at all. Next time, we'll hit the John Pond ledges and I might rethink that last statement. Either way, this is a neat area to explore and I'm glad Tredhed and I had a rain-free morning to do it.

Lake Lila-Uber busy?

Got a call last night from my former hiking partner. He has had some surgeries over the past few years and not able to go.

Well he got a bug in his butt and all of a sudden wants to go this weekend. He is in good health and should be fine but he hasn't slapped a pack on in awhile so I want to keep the mileage relatively low.

Our MO typically revolved around a hike into a lake, set up base camp and have a nice side trip, (to another body of water to fish, a nearby mountain, etc).

Of course it is always up to me to plan route, menu, shop ...(did I say he was a friend???).

So I was thinking the 3 mile hike into the Lake Lila Lean to might make a nice trip//Frederica Mountain etc. I have a tent, he has a hammock so we can use a primitive site but I think he'd be comfortable during the late afternoon/evening at a lean to.

I know it is wildly popular during the more temperate season, think it will be mobbed this weekend? Supposed to be a nice weekend. Heck I might even carry the Hornbeck...

Any other ideas?

T-Lake Lean-to?

I was planning on spending a couple of nights in the T-Lake Lean-to near Piseco Lake. October 25-26. What should I expect? Busy? Rowdy? Empty?

I plan on bringing alternative shelter but was wondering about the overall status of this L-T.

Wedding Venues

Hey everybody,

My newly minted fiancé and I are in the search for wedding venues. The Adirondacks mean a ton to both of us and we would really like to tie the knot in the park. Does anyone have any recommended wedding venues within the blue line?

Winter boots

I wanted to start a new thread for winter boots, since the info I dug up using the search engine was at least a decade or more old, and most of the boots aren't made anymore and the links were dead.

This is the year I want to do some winter camping, but in the past my hunting boots didn't cut it, temperature wise. I know pack boots are generally warmest, but not easy to hike in. Any suggestions for something that I can hike in that will also be warm when just hanging around camp? What is everyone wearing these days?

Rocky Peak Ridge 10/13

A stone’s throw away from the Parking Hell that has become Route 73 is a trailhead in the hamlet of New Russia with no such problem yet giving access in the most spectacular way to a High Peak (and even two, should you do include Mt. Giant).

I wanted to make this a sunset hike, so I left home ludicrously early. On Route 9, I stopped to let two deer cross the road and thought about it being hunting season and not having anything orange to wear.

Of course, I was first to sign in at 5:25. I quickly removed a layer and hiked in summer clothes for the entire day, except on top of RPR. Hiking in the dark with my headlamp, I heard no other noise than the leaves falling. I jumped once as a huge spider came into focus only a foot away from my face.

The ground was soft, earthy and covered by pine needles. I reflected that this would be nice footing at the end of the day. On the other hand, it’s not the best type of forest for fall colors. But after 30 minutes or so, deciduous trees became prominent and the trail became a bit harder to follow with all the leaves on the ground.

My objective was to get to Blueberry Cobbles for sunrise and that was easily accomplished. Up to this first summit, the trail is gradual, in excellent condition (no blowdown nor mud) and free of slabs. Highly recommendable for a family hike. However, this summit is south-facing, so I could not grab a picture of the rising sun. I still got some great shots of daybreak on the Eastern Adirondacks. The orange tint of the rising sun combined with all the orange leaves in the valley made for a rare spectacle. I thought that wearing orange this day would be like wearing camo any other day.

Getting to the next summit, Bald Peak, is more strenuous and involves some slabs that could be a challenge in wet conditions, but not today. Aside from that, the trail remains in better condition than almost every other trail I’ve seen in the Dacks this summer. There are view points along the way that preview the next bump. Bald Peak itself has a huge summit separated by some wooded areas. Rocky Peak, Giant and the Dix range are all there to contemplate.

Great job, Sisyphus!

Getting to Rocky Peak (not Rocky Peak Ridge yet) involves going down almost 300’ into a col. From this summit, RPR can finally be seen, next to Giant. Any prospective 46er who turns away here is making more than one mistake since the short descent into the next col offers a great reward, almost worth the trip in itself: Lake Mary Louise (RPR is in the middle).

The next part up the ridge is fantastic with 360o views along the way. Yet, another reward awaits the determined hiker: almost all of the High Peaks are now visible, including the Great Range in all its glory, the Macs and Whiteface.

The return trip is much the same, but a bypass of Blueberry Cobbles allows to skip some of the elevation.
Total time: 10hrs including short breaks.

Lost diamond ring

I was hiking this weekend and lost my diamond ring my grandmother gave me and am heartbroken. I hiked Sawteeth, Pyramid Peak, Gothics and Armstrong on 10/11/19 and Wright Peak on 10/12/19. I really do not know which hike I lost it on, I was careful when opening the pocket that my rings were in but I guess not careful enough. If anyone has found it I would be so appreciative if you reach out to me and will offer a reward. My email is kaylarobinson7@yahoo.com. Thank you!

Hudson River Recreation Area - 10/12/19

I biked north from Lake Luzerne to the Hudson River Recreation Area on a beautiful fall day. The road transitioned from pavement, to dirt, to a path as I headed north. I turned around when the path was difficult to follow at just past 10 miles from the start. Road surfaces were generally pretty smooth except for some washboard and soft sections on the town maintained dirt road. The path beyond the end of the seasonal road in the Hudson River Rec Area is more suitable for mountain bikes. There were very few cars on any of the roads. The views of the Hudson River and surrounding hills were beautiful throughout the trip. This area has many options for biking and hiking - the best hikes are bushwhacks to the open summits. A few pictures from my trip.

4 glorious days in the Pharaoh Lakes region

My buddy Greg and I headed out early last Tuesday to do our annual camping/hiking/backpacking trip. We have never seen the PL region, so we decided to give it a shot, hoping that since it was mid-week and sort of late in the year we wouldn't have any trouble with crowds, given all that I had heard here about the popularity of the area.

We got to the Putnam Pond campground around 10am, paid our 4-day fee at the booth, and had our choice of parking spaces, since we were the only car in the lot near the Grizzle Ocean trail head. We got our packs on and headed out. It was a bluebird day, and our plan on day 1 was to get to Whortleberry Pond and camp there for our first night.

We hiked past the trail to Grizzle Ocean figuring we didn't have time to check it out, and continued past Wolf pond and the swamp. It was then that I realized that I had lost my expensive sunglasses somewhere along the way, which was a bummer, since they really belonged to my wife and she was not going to be happy. We continued on to Pharaoh Lake proper, stopping along the way to check out the tent sites and the lean-tos. None of them were occupied, so we poked around and took some pictures. Without exception the areas around the lean-tos seemed neat and clean, which was nice to see. There wasn't a stick of firewood within throwing distance, though, but that was to be expected. We did see this in one of the lean-tos.

I asked Justin if it was one of his, but he said no, he doesn't trust birch bark. :)

We saw some foundations in a clearing near the lake -- does anyone know what it used to be? It looked to be a fairly sizable building at one time, given the placement of the concrete supports.

Here's one of PL on the first day. (There wasn't supposed to be a second day, but we'll get to that...)

We kind of missed the trail to Whortleberry that sits directly behind the lean-to since we had USGS maps and didn't dig out the NG map from my pack to see exactly where it was. We cut off the trail too early and ended up just more or less heading toward Whortleberry through the woods since everything was pretty wide open. We skirted the marsh to the left (we didn't know there was also a camp site to the right) and ended up seeing red and blue through the woods, and we thought the site was taken. I walked up a bit closer and realized that the red we saw was just a derelict canoe and the blue was a tarp covering about a face cord of cut and split wood, and some sort of metal pop up canopy.

We had found our home for the night. We were getting the late afternoon sun, so it made setting up camp a really relaxing time. Greg was hanging, and I was a ground dweller with my one-man tent. After that we ate dinner and started a fire. If any of you guys were the hunters who processed all that wood, we stole a few pieces, I hope you don't mind.

We had a good night's sleep, and in the morning we got up early to break camp and get on our way to Crab pond. As we were hiking out and just about to loop around the southern end of PL, we met a ranger coming the other way. Ranger Chuck (we didn't catch his last name). He's the one who told us there was another site on Whortleberry, and that it was hunters who put up the wood. He also told us what we suspected -- that there was a canoe stashed around there somewhere. We had looked around for one for a few minutes, but didn't plan on going out on the water anyway, so we didn't really search too hard. He didn't seemed thrilled that it was there, but he said people keep bringing them in. Really nice guy. We talked a bit about the ranger lifestyle -- the benefits and drawbacks -- the need for more rangers, the crazy hours he works since they are always shorthanded and their territories are huge, but he waved his hand around in an arc and said, "On the other hand, this is my office." Hard to argue with that. We told him of our plans to hit Crab Pond for our second night, then Rock, then back out to Putnam and the car on the last day. He said there might be one guy in front of us, but then amended that and said that no, he thought that person was actually on their way out so we probably wouldn't see anyone.

When we started around the lake, the trail took a decided turn for the worse.

To quote DSettahr: "There's a lot of little ups and downs especially that don't show up on the topo maps- and these do tend to add up to considerable added elevation gains over longer distances. Don't get me wrong- it's not exactly like the area is super rugged or anything- but it's also not uncommon for folks new to the Pharaoh area to find that they end up hiking at least a little bit more slowly than they'd anticipated."

Um, Yes. By the time we got to the spot where we were supposed to head to Crab, it was much later than we anticipated it would be, and we would likely get to Crab close to dark at the rate we were going. The trail had taken a toll on us. It seems like the trail on the N/W side of the lake is less of a trail, and more of series of trail markers pointing in a general direction over rocks and roots, while simultaneously wandering from right to left and up and down.

Everything was covered in wet leaves, so it was PITA hiking. It felt like you had to evaluate every step before taking it, and test each step after taking it to see if you could put your weight down. Not my favorite way to hike. I don't think either of us looked up the entire time. When we reached the turn-off, we rested for a bit and Greg said, "What was your favorite part of day 2 so far? Rocks covered in moss, or roots covered in leaves?" I voted rocks, since they're prettier.

We decided right then that Crab pond and Rock Pond were out. I looked at my GPS and we had been traveling at about 1.5 mph on average, about half what we were doing on the way into Whortleberry. My boots looked like someone took a rasp to the toes and sides. So we made an executive decision to continue on around PL with the goal of reaching Split Rock Lean-to for our second night. We got there without incident, both feeling a little like we wimped out, but we thought it was the right choice, given how we felt.

We checked out the lean-to, but opted to keep going a bit farther and take the tent site just past the lean-to. It looked to be another beautiful night, and we didn't want to risk someone showing up at the lean-to after we were settled in.

We had an early dinner and then hung around the fire for bit before turning in.
It looked like there were two other campers on the lake besides us -- one group way down on the other end, and one person directly across from us who seemed to be camping alone. Hope we weren't too loud.

The next morning, we figured we'd head for Grizzle Ocean lean-to, since we had decided to cut the loop short. It was an easier hike for sure, and we made great time once we got past Wolf pond swamp. I was walking up one of the final hills before the straightaway to Grizzle, and I looked down and found my glasses! Unbelievable.

We got there early afternoon, just in time for lunch. It was a nice place and in good shape, although you could tell it must get pounded on, being so close to Putnam pond camp ground. We were a little concerned we'd have someone showing up at night, but it didn't happen. We hiked around Grizzle Ocean for a bit, looking for other sites, but didn't see any. We did see what looked to be one illegal site down by the water to the left, but still within throwing distance of the lean-to. I threw a few lures in but it's so shallow I couldn't get to where the fish were.

The sunset on the leaves was brilliant: https://www.dropbox.com/s/tp38b4wn4y....19-1.jpg?dl=0

We also found something in the woods when hunting for firewood, so if anyone knows the owner, you can let them know where it is:

The next morning, we ate a leisurely breakfast and headed back to Putnam Pond and the car. It was a fantastic trip, with the best weather I think I've had for any extended camping trip since we did the West Canada Lakes loop in 2015. I felt a lot younger then. :) In total, we saw three people including the ranger. Not bad at all!

Rock and Crab are still on our list however. Maybe as an out and back. Thanks for reading this (incredibly long) trip report. Hope you enjoyed it. Sorry I didn't put the pictures somewhere linkable.....

Fin and feather

We spent the past 10 days in a cabin (based camped) on Upper St. Regis Lake with our power boat and ultralight canoe and kayak. The week started off with some evening and early am rain and fog but overall the weather was superb.

After settling in and "all dressed up" for cocktails and dinner I decided to toss in some of my new EGB blinker lures off the dock and I hooked into this nice Northern Pike.

The following day we headed off and explored 3 different St. Regis Ponds. After 3 carries and on the last pond I finally hooked into some trout (Splake) which became the main dish for our evening meal.

The following day we hiked St. Regis Mountain. On 2 other days during the week we stopped by the VIC hiking some of their trails and visited Blue Mountain Museum.

The rest of our time we explored regional ponds and lakes with a focus on streams, rivers, and wetlands. At the mouth of one river in particular I hooked into 4 nice Northern Pike. Two I boated and 2 others I lost, along with my lures, as I was unprepared tackle wise using 4 lb test line without a leader.

Several years ago I had concluded that during fall brook trout fishing trips it would be worth while to bring along my .410 in the event of crossing the path of some waterfowl as northern waterfowl season opens during the last part of the fishing season. During our 10 days we flushed 50+ birds. Most were flushed well before any gun shot range (.410 or otherwise). I did have 4 opportunities to shoot at 4 different birds, most while floating around a corner of a meandering narrow stream, bagging 2 birds on 2 different days (A Black and Mallard).

I must say this was the most enjoyable vacation, fishing, and hunting trip I've ever been on.
