Winter Recap: Your favorite trips this winter

As Spring officially begins this weekend, and reading Newbie's recent trip report about "Best Hike This Winter", it got me thinking...

Anyone care to share some more of their favorite outings from this winter thus far?

Most of the trips that I've been on this winter I have shared in the Trip Reports, and if I had to pick a top 5 favorite like Newbie did, I think that I'd have to go with something like this (in no particular order):

- The first two I will combined into one vote, which are the two times I visited an old friend's cabin near the North Hudson area. The First Trip was with my friend Bill, and it was really great to see the camp again after 25+ years, and explore a couple nearby ponds for the first time. Bill and I have become pretty good pals over the past few years, thanks in large part through Adkforum. The Second Trip was with my good buddy Jason (whom I've known since childhood), when we climbed up Harris Hill through waist deep powder, and made complete asses out of ourselves while sled-riding down the trail into the camp. Man that was Fun!

- Another favorite outing for me this winter was the day trip my father & I did to the Middle Sister Mtn in the Three Sisters range near Warrensburg. It was great to get out with my Pops again. We hadn't been on a trip to the Adirondacks together in a long time! Also, this was an area that I just started exploring in depth only a year ago, for a certain guidebook series that my father had introduced to me long ago when I was a young kid. Needless to say, we had a great day!

- Another vote for favorite trip would definitely have to be the Raquette Lake Campout on Boucher Point. We always have a blast on these trips when we're able to get a few of the boys together, which sometimes seems harder & harder to do these days. Johnny & Jason & I go way back, and it's always a favorite trip when you can go with old friends!

- Trips with new friends can also be a lot of fun! Such was the case on the Southerland Mountain Campout with DuctTape Russ and 12trysomething Rob. This trip panned out perfectly, and it was great to do another trip with those guys, and we're even in the early stages of planning our next trip together. Rob was nice enough to bring along his camera on this trip, and he did an excellent job making the "Winter Wonderland Movie", creating memories that will be enjoyed over & over again for many years to come!

- And to list a 5th favorite trip from this past winter thus far, I'll go back to the very first day of winter, on December 21, 2014, when just me and my dog Jenny went and did what we enjoy doing most... Just wondering around through the woods with no particular destination in mind, exploring a stream, its waterfalls, and its wetlands. On that day I just happened to pick Groff Creek.

So how about you?

Granted, there's still time left to enjoy some winter-like conditions in the Adirondacks, and if you enjoy winter like I do, you may be a little sad to see it go. I had a lot of fun this winter, and looking forward to another winter camping trip that's planned for this weekend!

- Justin :)
