Raquette Falls trail

This trip was a decision made on the trail. The plan was to head to Blueberry lean-to, but the road was still closed so we decided not to add an extra three miles to our trip. We decided instead to head towards Raquette falls. This trail was shorter than the trail to Blueberry. The two miles to the first lean-to on the trail called Hemlock Hill was broad and flat. We did this in around an hour, some parts of the trail where flooded out and required a small detour around. From Hemlock Hill there was more broad flat trail leading to Raquette Falls lean-to's one and two as well as the DEC Interior Outpost. First you will come to Raquette Falls No.2, this lean-to has plenty of space and a view of the river. The lean-to was in good shape and so was the out house. Wood was plentiful as many trees had fallen in the surrounding woods. Lean-to No.1 was not worth the hike back to. As we went in mid April their was still snow under the Pines surrounding the lean-to the only patch of clear ground around this lean-to was the mud directly in front of it. Our group of 10 could never have camped here so it was decided to head back to No.2. If you are going to the falls stop at the Interior outpost that lies directly between the two and has a field surrounding it providing plenty of room. Set up camp at No.2 as it is only a 30-40 minute walk to falls and is the best lean-to by the Falls themselves. The weather was normal for April cold but not enough for heavy coats and above freezing. We brought a cooler filled with food for breakfast and lunch. Since the trail is easy you can bring plenty of food. The hike out is easy and takes around 2 hours to hike all the way out.
