Alewives in Lake Champlain

It had to happen since the lake is connected to the St Lawrence.
Alewives (moon eyes) were the forage base that induced our state to introduce Pacific salmon.
Prior to this, smelt were the main forage for Lake Trout and Landlocks in the lake.
Smelt are a predator, feeding on fish smaller than themselves.
Alewives are plankton eaters, but can reproduce in huge numbers.
So, is this good for the fishery, or not.
