We wanted a quiet New Years away from the tv, ball drops, and fireworks so we got a rustic cabin in beautiful Parker Dam State Park. It had recently snowed, covering the forests in powder, draping the boughs of the hemlock and pine trees. The trails were great to hike with the wetlands, beaver dams, streams, and snowy forests. It was so quiet and serene. We had a clear night, and the stars lit up the sky. On the way home we drove through the Quehanna Wild Area and stopped by the Marion Brooks Natural Area with its forests of white birch, which were beautiful and stark among the snow and mist. A great weekend in the woods.
