New student to karate, someone at the gym mentioned this forum as being a great resource for advice on technique, equipment, etc.
Few things about me: 6'3", ~207 lbs, with a mean streak. Wife is a cop and I've taken a lot of heat for marrying a more "masculine" female, although I think that's a ***** opinion and none of peoples' business. Anyway, she has been encouraging me to take up self defense because I'm sort of a mild mannered guy and I don't tend to get upset that easily. I do worry though that I won't be able to protect myself or my family should we run into trouble.
Sorry for the bio, but here's my question:
I'm having a ton a trouble perfecting my breaks. Been practicing on some loose brick we had laying out back and my chops are generating enough force. I've also borrowed a particle board shelf from a cheap office desk and was able to penetrate there with no issue, but I can't get the same results w/ brick.
I'm probably not executing proper technique; my hands is extremely swollen and it's considerably painful after practices. Sorry to throw out some FNG questions, but could someone give me some pointers on proper break technique?
