Practical advice for companies in raising the employees’ security awareness, Kaspersky is encouraging companies to take it a step further, in embarking Industry 4.0, by introducing a cybersecurity culture.
The fourth industrial revolution was the centerpiece of conversations at the World Economic Forum (WEF) on ASEAN meetings since 2016. Ministry of International Trade and Industry has taken proactive measure to develop the National Policy on Industry 4.0 , cybersecurity plays an important role in ensuring information systems and manufacturing lines are protected from cybercrime threats.
The industrial communication is expanding and strongly connected, digital security becomes a critical aspect and has now become more complex as it consists of connected devices and environments that cannot be protected by traditional cybersecurity approaches.
“Hence, we are encouraging the Malaysian companies to embark on a cybersecurity culture. When we talk about practical advice for companies, we always advise the companies to raise your employee security awareness, but some seen it as a set of dull lectures. Kaspersky has studied a variety of approaches and say that does not work well,” says Yeo Siang Tiong, General Manager, Southeast Asia, Kaspersky.
Yeo went on to say that training will only work when it is not purely theory, but teaches things that are relevant to one’s job functions. “The training of cybersecurity culture should not interrupt the team daily workflow, uses real life illustrative examples and applicable advices which are workable.” Yeo added.
On the up side, Kaspersky Security Bulletin Q2 2019 reported that Malaysians continue to be more aware with the cyberthreats, where the online infections shows improvements.

“There has been an improvement of Malaysian cyberthreat awareness, which is timely as the nation moves towards the Industry 4.0. We also praise the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) initiative, namely Empowering Women in Cyber Risk Management Programme , launched together with Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development recently,” said Yeo. “Cybersecurity Malaysia’s recent victory in ASEAN Capture the Flag competition held in Perth also proves that the country is on the right track in building their defenses. We certainly need more workforce with the right skills in combating the cyber criminals at large.”
