conflict prevention

i practice street defense, but many people look stunned when they find out that i dont talk much about conflict prevention, and instead go straight into practicing techniques to deal with being physically attacked, what are your thoughts on this matter? i went to a conflict and crime prevention course once, but the police officer just kept talking and talking for hours about things i thought should have been common sense, and it took forever before we started physical training - i felt robbed of an hour of my training time - so i dont do that any more, instead i get straight down to business without talking - at the place where i train now, we walk in, do our warmups, and then start sparring or practicing techniques from the moment we begin to the time we leave.... what do you think? is conflict prevention a necessary part of training? or is better to do without? just curious
