is Tai Chi weakening my knees??

I have been practicing Tai Chi for 4 years now, and with all the emphasis on rooting and weight distribution, I'm wondering if it's taking a toll on my knees.



Have any of you who've been practicing Tai Chi for a long time ever felt your knees buckling?? One of our best teachers at the school, 2 years ago, stopped teaching because he couldn't do the form anymore after knee surgery.



My work is mostly sedentary. I work on the computer all day, or I'm in the car all day. Lately I've been hearing a lot of grinding on my knees with every movement, and it's been hard going up and down the stairs. Sorry for the rant, but I'm just wondering if other Tai Chi practitioners have had trouble with their knees.
