I have a friend who recently purchased an older 8 passenger 4WD Ford Expedition (the thing is huge!) and is very interested in finding camping spots he can drive out to where he would have to utilize the 4WD capabilities. We're looking more for car camping spots but a short hike in would be fine too.
The only car camping off a dirt road that I'm familiar with is on Powley-Piseco Road and my 2WD Pontiac Vibe can navigate that just fine. I know of other areas with drive up sites such as in the Moose River Plains area but do not have any personal experience with them. He is looking for something a little more rugged and exciting to drive on (although not quite as exciting as the Crane Pond Rd mud pit :)). Any suggestions?
