First time to Adirondacks - How's my itinerary look?

I'm planning me and my girlfriend's first trip to the Adirondacks and all the information online is overwhelming. Here's what I've pieced together in way of an itinerary. If anyone has time to look it over and make suggestions, I'd be greatly appreciative. The information on this forum has been very helpful in planning!

-4 day/3 night canoe camping trip in St. Regis area. Looking at doing a St. Regis Ponds Loop leaving from and returning to Floodwood base of St. Regis Outfitters. The canoeing options in the area seem infinite, but from what I've read the St. Regis area is a "must-see" in terms of remoteness, solitude, and a great wilderness canoeing experience.

-Spend a night in a cabin/hotel someone near Saranac Lake or at Adirondack Loj for a brief recovery before:

-Day hike up and down Mt. Marcy via the Van Hoevenberg Trail. Again, I've read that this is a "must-see" for Adirondacks first-timers. This will be the Thursday before Labor Day probably. Crowds going to be an issue?

-3 day/2 night backpacking trip - West Canada Lakes Wilderness Loop. I saw a forum member mention this hike on another thread as being a less-used area, and we'd be in the area around Labor Day so I thought it might be a good way to avoid crowds.

So what do you think?

Also, what are insects like in these areas towards the end of August? Where we're from, we don't have to deal with much besides regular old mosquitoes, but it seems ya'll have a more varied and voracious host of insects.

Thanks! :)
