Does kyokushin tournament rules betray Karates origin?

Karate means "hand". Having tournament rules in a karate style with no punches to the face, would be akin to a Taekwondo style only allowing low kicks, while punches to the face are used.



Question: Does kyokushin betray it's origin, in implementing a way of fighting which is totally foreign to karate as it was originally intended and practiced?
