McIntyre Iron Works Furnace Mystery

My friend posted a photo asking about a mysterious "folk art" style component found at the McIntyre Iron Works furnace at Tahawus/Adirondac. Does anyone have a guess as to what the terms "SNR?" or "Toots" may refer to?

My guess was that it was not original to the 1850's furnace period but was something that came later probably mid-20th century during the time of the NL Mine. I thought it might refer to an individual metalworker, or a worker fraternity, or possibly even a local hunting club from the area?
