Wearing a sword how does it dang? Gets in way?

So I have not worn a sword but I have worn a straight baton. When I walk it dangles and hits my leg and moves about. It gets annoying. I am wondering how a sword feels to wear? Does it do the same types of stuff? I definitely can see why police have swapped to extendable batons and such easier to carry.
