Suggest swamping your canoe for safety...

Just a thought; I have a Hornbeck Blackjack which I love. But a while back I decided to take it to a nice calm beach and just swamp-it to just see if I could get back in it and I just could not do it. Even under the most controlled conditions. I may as well have been wrestling with an alligator. No matter what approach I tried, I couldn't get it upright and get back in. I even tried "throwing it up and out of the water (while treading water of course), but couldn't do it. This came as quite a shock because I had previously been holding onto a false sense of security, and this was a reality check. I've used the boat many times camping with lots of gear on windy lakes like Lila and Lows, and now I see that if I really did lose contol and flip it, I would have been in for quite a (bad) surprise. I guess I was holding onto my old memory of flipping a Grumman Aluminum canoe, and easlily righting it to paddle into shore even while swamped, with no problem. So I suggest everyone with a small boat try this little game and see how well you know your boat. Maybe this will help someone from making a sorry mistake. Take care:boozing:
