Buckhorn Lake Outlet Falls, SLWA, 18 Aug 2014

This was my youngest daughter's last trip to complete her Hamilton County Waterfall Challenge. While not the largest of the eight waterfalls we visited this summer, it was certainly special nonetheless.

After parking at the Piseco Town Garage (out of the way of any equipment), we hit the NPT and headed south. Soon, we passed through the old field and hit the snowmobile cross trail and register. There was quite a contrast since out last NPT visit as we didn't see any other hikers while out. There were only a few minor muddy spots on the well drained and level trail. About half-way to the falls, there was a good view of Rogers Mt. from an old beaver marsh. After about 35 minutes of walking, we reached the small foot bridge over Buckhorn Lake Outlet.

There were several deadfalls across the 4 ft. waterfall, but they didn't detract from the solitude of the location. While my daughter had a quick snack, I checked out the open area of Dead Vly. I'll be back there on snowshoes! We then walked up to see Buckhorn Pond; very nice. The view of Rogers and Poplar Mts. were pretty spectacular. Again, I'll be back here on snowshoes as well.

Checking off our last waterfall was kind of sad, as we definitely looked forward to every outing. Maybe we can come up with another idea to bond; spruce bog challenge, poison ivy patch challenge, ledge without a view challenge, the list goes on.
