The short version is a trial is being done in Sussex where children as young as 13 can sign up to a "c-card" program that allows them to get free contraceptives. Between 13 and 16 the card can only be used 3 times before it has to be renewed. I feel like this is something worth talking about since its normally an interesting conversation.
Anyway, to start things off I'll give my 2 cents: I'm fine with it. As with the subject of sex education in schools, all the evidence shows this sort of stuff, as a program with a goal to reduce pregnancies and STIs, works. That leaves this as one of those lovely moral and societal debates. And for me I don't see a problem with people having sex when they feel ready to have sex. Which I gather from these stories and from experiences with friends at that age, is sometimes under 16.
Overall my view is a simple one that if they want to have sex they will have sex. We as a society can either prepare them for it and provide them ways of doing it safely, or we can stamp our feet because we don't like it and they'll do it anyway. This is one of those things where I feel like the teenagers have a right to personal safety that trumps the more adult peoples' right to not be uncomfortable with the notion.
But I'm curious where other people land on this. I've gathered from other threads on MAP that I seem to be at a further end of the scale on subjects like this than most people.
