Parked off route 8 on Teachout road just after crossing the truss bridge over the East branch of the Sacandaga river. I had to skirt around private property to get to the path along Extract brook. I spent some time looking for the path. I thought it was on the east side, but it actually starts on the west side of the creek. I followed the path for about 1 1/2 miles until I reached a complex of beaver ponds. I skirted around the ponds and climbed the southern sub-peak of Buckhorn mountain. There was a nice view from a wide rock slide just shy of the top. (I didn't go to the actual tallest peak of Buckhorn - just this subpeak). After the hike, it was refreshing to take a quick dip at Griffin gorge.
