Facebook hasquietly rolled out face

Facebook hasquietly rolled out face recognition technology to users around theglobe, which automatically picks out friends from newly-uploadedphotographs and recommends suitable name tags.

The service, which debuted to some users in the US earlierthis year, is all about making tagging photos less of a chore."Like that time you had to tag your cousin and her fiancé over andover and over again in 64 different pictures of their engagementparty," remindsFacebook engineer Justin Mitchell Cheap NBA 2K17 MT.

Your friend will still have to approve the tags, and canwilfully ignore Facebook's automatic labels. But by making iteasier than ever to purposefully or accidentally add tags tophotos, the feature has quickly sparked privacyconcerns.

For example, you won't get to pre-approve tags on photosbefore they're published, so if you've been snapped and tagged in acompromising position the onus is on you to remove the identifyinglabel from photos of last weekend's stag do.

More importantly, the social network will automatically recognise your face andsuggest your name as a tag to friends -- as its default setting.Just to rub it in, Facebook hasn't told you that it has turned thefeature on.

In a statement to the New York Times, a Facebookspokesperson said, "we should have been more clear with people during theroll-out process when this became available to them."
