Hoping to head up this weekend to do a loop around the Cold River area. I was planning on starting at Coreys and utilizing the Ward Brook Truck Trail, the Northville Placid Trail and the Calkins Brook Trail to create a loop.
1. Will the Gates at Coreys still be open this weekend?
2.Would I be better off completing this loop in one direction versus the other? (i.e. CW vs CCW).
3. Are there decent enough flat spots and/or designated tent sites
along these trails to set up a tent? I would like to avoid lean to's unless it is an udder down pour. I will be hiking with my dog and she doesn't sleep well in the openness of a lean to. This also prevents me from using my hammock. Thus, I need to either find an appropriate flat spot off trail (I am aware of the 150' regulation) or, locate a camp here disc.
4. Are there any other things in this area I should be aware of/looking for etc?
5. My map shows this area being considered the western high peaks. Based on that, a bear canister is not required, correct?
Thanks in advance.
