first time for everything

So I figured last night would be a good time to hit the local brown trout stream with the rain and such so I headed out at dusk to my big fish spot armed with large buggers that usually do the job. Flogged 3 holes without a tap so I decided to head downstream to a spot that gets pounded by the bait bucket brigade but I've had luck in the past when the water is high. Third cast in this spot and I got into a nice chunky 13" brown. Feeling better about my prospects in this spot, I moved into a new position to fish the back end of a large pool where an eddy had formed before the wash out. Soon I was into a bigger fish but one that clearly wasn't terribly scrappy...

and viola! First walleye on the fly rod, cross that one off the list.

Unfortunately, walleye season doesn't start until midnight tonight so against my strong urge to turn this legal sized fish into filets I threw him back.
