Whiteface via Connery Pond

Came up to Lake Placid from Cleveland, with a rain forecast calling for a 90% chance of rain on Sunday when we planned to climb. Was amazed to rise in the morning to no rain. We parked at Connery and did the climb. Many have done it so I won't go into the hike itself, but doing it with my son and his good friend made it very special for me. I had climbed this route perhaps 13 years ago by myself.

There was a little mud down low, but the trail for the most part was pretty darn dry - relatively speaking. The initial rock face was more slippery then I liked and required extra care. The brook itself was no problem. I have been on substantially wetter and muddier trails all through the Adirondacks then what we encountered this past Sunday. There was a ton of cloud cover as we drew higher, in fact, when my son and his friend first summited, the ranger said they were the first people he had seen all day (this was around 3:30 pm). When I made the top about an hour later the lower gate opened and perhaps three cars came up before closing.
