Sweat

With 42 of 46 peaks completed, I one would think I have this locked down already. But I keep finding that regardless of what I do, my base layers and 2nd layers are wet from sweat at the end of my hikes. I don;t worry about this in spring, summer or fall, but when hiking in winter, it adds an element that cane endanger me and when camping, if forces me to bring a complete change of base/2nd layers.



Now I don't feel I sweat THAT much more that most people. I think I'm in the 60-70 percentile. So it's not like I'm 80-100%. This past weekend (December winter conditions) I hiked in nothing but a wool teeshirt and long sleeved wool teeshirt and that started absorbing my sweat quickly and soon remained wet the entire trip.



I wasn't camping and was traveling in a pair, so it wasn't a big concern, but if the s**t hit the fan and I was going solo, I'm a sitting duck for serious trouble.



What's especially troubling is that I can hike in a tee and long sleeved tee, but as I brush against trees at higher elevations, I get showered by falling snow from branches which drenches me. So this means I need to put on a rain layer (I use a rain layer that is Gore-Tex, has armpit zippers and the works). And naturally, this keeps more heat in. But what am I to do?



I would appreciate if others can share their "systems" for managing sweat and what the outcomes are. Removing everything but my t-shirt or walking at a snail's pace seems the only thing I have left. Is this really all that's left?
