Bailey Hill - Hoffman Notch Wilderness - 1/11/15

I did a bushwhack hike today to Bailey Hill (3054') in the Hoffman Notch Wilderness. My approach was from the Loch Muller trailhead. I took the Bailey Pond trail, then the herd path towards Marion Pond. At the top of the slope that guards Marion Pond, I turned north and kept the slope on my right. It was an open forest 2.2 miles from the start of the bushwhack to the summit.

There were some nice filtered views of the High Peaks from the summit. No blowdown or tight spruce! I swung by Marion Pond on the way down. There was about 3" of powder snow on top of the crust at the base, and about 6" at the summit. I wore snowshoes the whole way and they worked well.

Zoom view of Mount Haystack (14 miles to the north) from Bailey Hill

Overcast all day but nice snow conditions for a bushwhack.
