The Bear Creek Preserve is south of Wilkes-Barre and is a superb place to hike. I really enjoy an 8 mile loop around Shades Creek with cascades, pools, big pine and hemlock, big rocks, and extensive rhodo tunnels. Shades and Bear Creeks are both beautiful and pristine. The preserve covers 3,412 acres and has over 30 miles of trails.
