I could have posted this in wildlife or fishing but since it was my first paddle with a new BJ New Trick 12, this forum seemed fine. My first time carry and paddle with this canoe into a backcountry Adirondack pond last weekend was in pursuit of brook trout. A couple hours of slow paddles trolling a LC Wabbler and worm and spinners failed to lure a fish. As I contemplated leaving, I heard an animal cry in the nearby woods. I paddled along the shoreline in the direction of sound and soon saw the shrubby vegetation move. Out popped two black bear cubs. They climbed onto downed tree limbs and ran along the shore. Unbelievably a third showed itself. No mother seen. I just drifted in my canoe and did not paddle closer just in case. The fishing objective meant I left my decent telephoto at home so good photos were disappointedly not possible. This one is an substantial crop. What a memorable rare experience to see three cubs at close range from my Black Jack. I do wonder why no sign of the mother.
