OK to leave gear at campsite during day?

My apologies if this has been the subject of a previous topic, but I couldn't find anything recent about this subject.



Is it in accordance with park regulations to set up a campsite on an island (or wherever) and then use it as a basecamp from which you could paddle and explore during the day, and then come back to at night?



Secondly, is it practically advisable/safe in terms of possibe theft or animal issues?
