Shutting down a thread

Wow, the thread about a black bear attack was shut down in a nanosecond. With all due respect to Neil, I think that was done way too quickly.



Chopping off a thread at the knees so quickly stifles speech. That, in turn, causes people to be reluctant to engage in discussions here. In the end, people will migrate elsewhere.



I do agree that discussions can linger, ad nauseum, but I also believe that shutting down discussions so quickly are not well advised in the long term.
