Upper Schroon access

Does anyone have any recent experience launching a kayak on the Upper Schroon River from the DEC fishing access lot on Rt. 74? My paddling partner wasn't comfortable with the launch at the falls today, especially since we'd have to return and also exit there. Since Phil Brown's book lists the Rt. 74 spot as an alternate launch site we went there. There's lots of no trespassing signs posted in the parking lot and signs saying fishing only, vehicles must register, etc. I did a google search and saw some comments about a nearby land owner calling the police etc. because this is only a fishing access site, not a boat access point. We were intimidated by all the signs and didn't want to risk leaving my truck there and having it damaged or towed. We also looked at putting in at the bridge on Alder Meadow Rd., but again wasn't sure about if it was OK to leave the truck there. The only spot to put in looked to be a steep path on the right side just after the bridge. Anybody launched there? Instead we went to Paradox Lake and spent a nice couple hours on the lake and Paradox Creek. Saw a osprey fishing and a couple of herons.
