Weekend snow shoe suggestions?

Hi everyone, this is my first post. My newly engaged fiancé and I are traveling to Lake Placid this weekend and plan to do at least one day of snow shoe. Last fall, we hiked our first peak (Phelps) together and have been looking forward to this trip for a while. We're both 30 year old active and are amateur hikers.



Last time we hiked, we camped at the Loj and were thinking the same plan...park there and snowshoe through Marcy dam to Avalanche pass.



My questions if anyone is willing to help...



Is this a good plan, are there better trails this time of year that are well paved so we don't get ourselves into trouble?



If we were to try a mountain hike, what about cascade and porter? If not those how about big slide or wright?
