Wrestling vs. Striking

I have finally found my mission for the rest of my life and finalized the right title for my book/DVD (I may just come up a DVD and not the book). After my senior Shuai Chiao brother David C. K. Lin's "Combat Shuai Chiao" book came out, I just don't want to write another Chinese wrestling book and repeat the same material. Since I was a striker before I was a wrestler, I would like to be the "bridge" between the striking art and the throwing art.

The main subject of my book is "how to turn a striking game into a wrestling game ASAP". I'm using the word wrestling instead of grappling here because my book won't cover much ground game.

I will cover the following subjects in my book:

- Big fist.

- Double haymakers.

- Single wrist control.

- Double wrists control.

- Double spears.

- Foot sweep entering.

- Head lock.

- Under hook.

- Over hook.

- Bear hug.

- Waist wrap.

- Single leg,

This book will help a striker to learn some throwing skill and strategy. It can also help a wrestler to learn how to deal with a striker. Do you think book like this will have any value in today's environment?

All comments (positive or negative) are welcomed and appreciated.

What is this?

What do you suppose this is?

Fly fishing Limekiln on Memorial Day

Any suggestions for patterns I should be tying? I'm thinking leeches and midges. Is there a hatch I should be aware of. Any help appreciated...

Oswegatchie river Cell coverage

Ok, so normally the electronic leashes (cell phones) are not a very high priority during most of my adventures. This year when I head up the Oswegatchie with some friends however it is kind of important to know if we will have a cell signal or not. I had heard a tower was being built in the Cranberry area and may cover the river somewhat, we are not going far, maybe Griffin rapids or Cage lake spring hole lean to. Anyway it is a long story but kind of important for us to know if we will have a cell signal so if anyone is in the know please share!

Interesting Night Training

So I'm seeing a counseller just not and the timing fits very nicely with training.

Tonight I made it to the first class which is Kali. I don't make this class mostly because I'm lazy, but my style lately has become stale and the only two options, take a break or look at from a different perspective. I chose the latter. (:

Done some stick drills, a little heaven six, and a few disarms. The panantukan! (My favourite) :3

Learned a few alternatives to counter the round kick and the four count and the jab cross.

Then kickboxing! Felt a massive difference mentally and was doing great sparring during the boxing rounds. Move on to the kicking aspect and Rick demonstrated a spinning back kick.... That hit me square in the back of the ear. So I ended up missing the rest of the sparring for that class.

Last class was CSW, and there was a few people in Gis doing competition stuff, so I wasn't rolling with them. I was the highest belt rolling tonight which was nice :D

All in all, best night I've had in a few weeks.

RIP Bob Hoskins

I liked him best in Super Mario Bros, and Unleashed. :)

Strange, it's the passing of actors who starred in films I watched growing up as a kid that make me realise the fragility of life, more so than people I actually knew.

Adirondack Canoe Co.

It seems Simon Gardner and Chad Smith have left Pete's shop to start their own Adirondack Canoe Company in Minerva. They've a rudimentary web site up; no model dimensions up at all. One image shows a production mold in process. Another indicates a cane sat back with no footpegs. With one of the three pages dedicated to "Cure" they may be using epoxy resin. Hard to say, not knowin'.

With SlipStream firing up last year and Swift offering a 10 footer this year the minimalist pack canoe market is getting crowded.

It's been 12 years since I was there...which island on FCP has the lean - to on it? Thanks for any info.

Perkins Clearing Access

Planning on doing a weekend trip in a couple days, and was curious if access to Sled Harbor via Jessup River Road is possible yet. I was guessing not, but figured I would ask anyway just in case. Thanks!

Windsor Brokers - Short Term Technical Analysis for Majors (07:45 GMT)

EUR/USD

A break above 1.3860 didn’t increase trader’s appetite for a continuation and found resistance during last couple of trading sessions at 1.3878. Currently we are back to the same support levels and lower border at 1.3780 and a break below there would open a downtrend towards 1.3735 and even 1.3640-70. Resistance is found at 1.3830 and 1.3855 ahead of previous high at 1.3878

Today we are expecting important fundamentals that could give high volatility during the day.

Res: 1.3830, 1.3855, 1.3878, 1.3904

Sup: 1.3790, 1.3780, 1.3735, 1.3670

GBP/USD

Cable managed to hold above 1.6800 yesterday but on the other hand didn’t manage to break previous day’s high at 1.6857 and only reached up to 1.6847.

If cable found support today at 1.6800 a potential rise towards 1.6875 is expected, below 1.6800 neutral tone will be in play with a potential test of 1.6780 and 1.6760 next. Below 1.6750-60 would offer negative sentiment. Resistance is found at 1.6830 and 1.6845 ahead of Monday’s high at 1.6857 and 1.6875 next.

USD/JPY

A test was made at 102.70 zone during yesterday’s session with no break, followed by a drop towards 102.20-30 support area a break will, force a continuation towards 101.85 support levels and if broken towards 101.20 on the other hand, only above 102.70 would open 103.30 and then 104.12 (April’s high)

Res: 102.70, 103.00, 103.30, 104.12

Same levels will be monitored today and a break below 1287 would open fresh lows towards 1276 and 1268 next, and from the upside above 1299 would open 1307 high. Only above 1307 would bring bulls in play.

Hand Wraps- Washing and brands

Hi all,

I am having trouble keeping my hand wraps from deteriorating quickly. I find they get strings wheree they bunch up and aren't even. (It's hard to describe. I hope this makes sense.) It is like the sideways strings get pulled too toight like a drawstrng across them and they aren't nice and even and flat.

It is happening to a couple I haven't even used that much- only a couple of months old.

They say they are machine washable. However, I find myself wondering if the machine is causing this? Should I hand wash them? That seems like a pain to do. One of the instructors said to buy a little mesh washing bag like he uses for his baby's little socks. I ended up seeing they make something just like this specficially for washing hand wraps. But a lot of the brand names on amazon say they break apart easily. How do you wash your hand wraps? Have you run into this same problem?

Below I attached a picture of one of the bags on amazon. There are a few different brands.

Or is it not the washing? Could it be the brand I am buying is of poor quality? Ironically, the brand I buy is "Everlast." Should I buy a different brand? If so, what are good brands and what are ones to avoid?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Apologies to Aikidoka

Historically I have been reasonably skeptical that Aikido had much to offer to participants in arts that train with greater resistance (in particular to arts with a sporting component). At training on Tuesday I was thrown by my BJJ coach (not particularly unusual in itself). However, my BJJ coach was previously an Aikido instructor and he threw me with an wristlock (I sort of ended up throwing myself). I think it was some sort of nikyō that he caught me with. Anyway, thought it might make a change for someone from outside of Aikido to attest to the effectiveness of at least some of the techniques, seeing as people generally seem to claim the opposite. I seem to recall him mentioning at some prior point that BJJ had given him the tools to use what he had learned from Aikido, so I guess that supports the notion of Aikido as a supplementary art that best suits people that have knowledge of other grappling arts.

Disclaimer: While I was in my teens I did briefly train in Aikido, and at the time I found the instruction I received to be of no real value.

I Need a place to paddle this weekend!

My wife and I were going to paddle Pine Creek Gorge (PA Grand Canyon) this weekend. They are calling for rain the entire time... My wife already has Friday off and I have just about everything packed so we are now looking for other places to go. I was thinking about the Delaware Water Gap but I have paddled that before. It was ok but not really worthy of a second trip so soon.

I was also thinking about Lows or little tupper but don't really want to drive 7 hours each way, really eats up a lot of paddling time.

Anyone know of any decent paddling spots (out & back or small loop) around 2 hours driving distance south or southwest of the Lows area?

Or even any places to paddle and primitive camp within a 4 hour or so driving distance of eastern (Lehigh Valley area) PA.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Double Wrists Control

What will you do if your opponent just moves in and uses his

- left hand to grab on your right wrist from outside in (this can prevent your from punching him with your right arm),

- right hand to grab on your left wrist from outside in (this can prevent your from punching him with your left arm),

- leading leg to jam your leading leg (this can prevent your from kicking him with your leading leg)?

When this happens to you, you want to break away his grips, because you want to rotate your arms to against his thumb instead of his 4 fingers, your

- right arm can only rotate counter-clockwise,

- left arm can only rotate clockwise,

When you do that, your "front door" will completely open for his attack. This is a very aggressive strategy. Your opponent just moves in and takes away your striking ability (right punch, left punch, leading leg kick) and force you to play his grappling game no matter you like it or not. What will be your reaction?

A very creative cover song

Single Wheel canoe dolly

Hey campers,

Just thought I would share this idea - found this Youtube and think it looks pretty spiffy: http://ift.tt/1hNsbfh

I think this addresses a couple of concerns I have about wheeled carts/dollies, etc. It would be pretty lightweight, and since it only has one wheel, it would not rack back and forth over uneven terrain. All the action would be up and down, and in line with the direction of travel. It might take enough of the load to enable wearing a pack and bringing the canoe along on one trip, rather than doing double portaging.

Anyhow, just thought it looked interesting.

Paddle on,

Dave

General fishing Question - Small streams - Schroon Lake Area

First post - I am new to this board but have been lurking for some time now. A lot of really good info here and well maintained board.

I am new to the area up here and I have been hiking the areas west of Schroon Lake in and around Hoffman's Notch and am wondering about all the small streams located in this area. I really don't want to get any more specific with respect to locations as I am aware of the issues as they relate to "spot burning" on internet fishing sites although I don't believe this area in general receives much fishing pressure.

Are there fish in these streams or am I just wasting time scoping them all out ?

I have researched about as much as I can, but the info I have found is general in nature. Any help in fishing this area is appreciated, I feel I have hit a :Peek:

Thanks

Kaspersky Lab’s Solution for Android-based Devices Proves its Effectiveness in Independent Testing

Kaspersky Internet Security for Android earned top marks in the independent testing of mobile security products conducted by AV-Test in March 2014. Kaspersky Lab’s solution successfully blocked all threats and its performance received the highest rating from the test lab.

AV-Test experts analyzed how effective the products from different vendors were at protecting against mobile cyber threats by testing them with 2,266 malware samples that were active at the time of testing. The products were also assessed for the number of false positives generated and their impact on performance, battery life and web traffic.

A total of 31 solutions were tested. During testing, the products used their default settings and were allowed to update their antivirus databases, use all available protection tools and query their in-the-cloud service. All products were tested on Android 4.3.

Kaspersky Internet Security for Android identified and neutralized 100% of the malware samples, compared with a 95% average score for all the participating solutions. It produced zero false positives and did not have any appreciable impact on the resources of the mobile device. This earned Kaspersky Internet Security for Android a score of 13 points out of 13, and a “Certified” award.

“The main task of a mobile security solution is to secure user data from cybercriminal actions and prevent the device from turning into a source of spam or other cyber attacks. When a user chooses a solution, its impact on the device’s performance often becomes a major factor. So it is important that a security product for smartphones and tablets ensures high-level protection against cyber threats and, at the same time, does not affect the user experience. The AV-Test study has demonstrated that Kaspersky Internet Security for Android fully meets this requirement,” said Viktor Chebyshev, Mobile Threat Research Group Manager at Kaspersky Lab. Kaspersky Lab’s security solution for Android devices has repeatedly been hailed by independent testing laboratories. In January this year PC Security Labs awarded the product a first place in the Android Malware Detection Test for demonstrating high-level protection against mobile cyber threats.

Blueberry Hill Trail System - Elizabethtown, NY - 4/26/14

This trail system in Etown boasts hundreds of acres and a network of 30 trails. It also contains a lean-to, an old cabin and a sugarhouse. A good mix of terrain and some great viewpoints.

I wasn't expecting much more than a short walk with the dog, and I was quite surprised.

Details here.

I'm terrible with rejecting people...need advice!

While chatting on FB the other day, a friend asked me out for dinner and drinks. I knew straight away that it was intended to be a date, but I didn't know how to say no...I was kind of put on the spot. I have no intentions of dating him. I figured I'd have dinner with him this time, but then think of a way to distance myself later. But then other people are saying that it'll be harder to back out later after already going on a date, and I should just not go to dinner at all.

So what do I do? Find an excuse and cancel, then keep saying I'm busy when he tries to reschedule? Or still go to dinner but don't act too friendly? Or tell him I'm not sure if it's a date, but I only just see you as a friend?

Great Trip!

Some pics of fish Vtflyfish caught recently. They were in my camera and I forgot to post these. Some of the larger fish were real specimens. Fortunately he threw the one sporting it's yolk sac back. He really is as great a fly fisher as he says he is! :rolling::rolling::rolling::rolling::rolling:

Be aware of what you write.

Well during the last month or so I was trying to make heads or tails of training in the bujinkan. Instead of finding clarity by posting in the forums, I found my self even more confused and conflicted. I grew angrier.

In my frustration and anger I said things that put the dojo and the teachers in a bad light. Of course it got back to them and they are irritated. If i had any plans to return to the dojo in the future, when i had more clarity, they have likely been dashed. A consequence of my own doing.

What all this has told me is, that I still have much to learn. I should have not brought my concerns to the forum but to my teachers directly and patiently. I also need to be more aware of what I say and write as I got angrier and more frustrated i had less and less of a filter.

I know most of my problem was with my self. My concept of how training should be, and being unable to reconcile with the methods of the system.

I was unable to accept no sparring, as it is the only form of pressure testing i knew of and participated in. My lack of understanding as to why the Bujinkan trained the way it did, and did not, and my apparent laziness in finding the answer.

I do know this, endlessly google searching and forum searching for the answers i was looking for was not doing any good and was counter productive. The answers i sought should have been asked in face to face conversations with real people, starting with my instructor.

I deeply regret my stupidity and angst. I regret a great many things about the last few months. I have practically destroyed budding friendships with my callus remarks

I say all this so i can hopefully help the others here. The new people, or people switching arts to something wholly different from what they are accustomed to. Please be wary of what your writing. Be aware of your emotions and your filter. The things you say can hurt the people around you, even if that is not what you intend.

I have learned that the best place to seek the answer to any question regarding your training you have is with your instructor, not on the forums. Especially major questions.

So please, be aware of your emotional state, and what your typing. If you find your self frustrated, have a honest and open discussion with your teacher. Don't make the mistake i did and do endless google searching and forum talking to find the answers. Sometimes the forums can be as much a hindrance to your quest for more clarity then it will help you.

I hope my experience helps others here. So that they may be just a bit more mindful of themselves.

Bloodsport - Jean Claud Van Damme (1988)

OK, maybe showing my age a little here but the movie Bloodsport starring Jean-Claud Van Damme has got to be my favorite all time movie.

Before the credits the following can be found: This motion picture is based upon true events in the life of Frank W. Dux. From 1975 to 1980 Frank W. Dux fought 329 matches. He retired undefeated as the World Heavy Weight Full Contact Kumite Champion. Mr. Dux still holds four world records: Fastest Knockout - 3.2 seconds Fastest Punch with a Knockout - .42 seconds Fastest Kick with a Knockout - 72 mph Most Consecutive Knockouts in a Single Tournament - 56 Subsequently Mr. Dux founded the first American Ninjitsu System. Dux-Ryu.

Although I must admit I also watched the later ones Bloodsport II, III, and IV but didnt find them just as interesting.

Has anyone else seen the movies, and what was your thoughts on it ?

Where to go?

Planning a trip for this weekend, but I've had a small hiccup. One of the guys coming with us messed up his knee, so we're going to be slow moving. The Primary goal for the weekend is trout, and we're limited to a 4-5 mile easy hike due to the knee injury.

I'm entertaining the idea of hiking from the gates into Mooseriver plains wild forest (approx 4 miles into wakley dam) I know there's fish in Cedar river flow and Cedar river.

I've been looking into Cedar Lakes (west canada lakes wilderness) along the NPT, but I have no idea if there's fish in there, or the surrounding ponds, I also have no idea if the gate is open along Jessup River Road, to access the parking area at the Pillsbury mountain trail head.

I was also looking at the western edge of the Siamese ponds wilderness (Kunjamuk trail/long pond trail area) with the waters there of Long Pond, Rock Pond, and John Mack Pond, also giving us access to the eastern shore of indian lake for the possibility of Nothern Pike :D But again, I have no idea if there's trout in any of those waters.

I'm rarely ever in the Adirondacks outside the high peaks wilderness area, so I could really use some help. Can anyone tell me if there are fish in the areas I listed above (in particular the western side of Siamese ponds) , or point me in the direction of a low mileage, relatively easy hike where we can access some decent trout water, and camp? I'm searching around the Indian lake area only because I have some knowledge of the area, but don't want to head much further west or north because we may have a kid with us, and getting to Indian lake will be a 2 hour drive as it is.

Thank you in advance for any help, and if you care to share some inside knowledge, feel free to drop me a PM.

E-musha shugyo

I'm learning a lot from people's constructive comments and am convinced that a big issue with the buj outside Japan is people failing to get feedback for one reason or another. So I'm wondering if it's possible to crowd source technique refinement

So here's a proposal...

If anyone requests a form from one of the ryuha I will do my best to show the basic version as I understand it. Mappers will provide useful constructive feedback. I'll then try to incorporate this and post up a (hopefully improved) version the following week

Hopefully we can all learn and improve as a result

I suggest that the forms are limited to those described in soke's books as I feel that the ones that have been excluded are excluded for a reason

What do you think?

Class starts in 1/2 hour if anyone wants to kick it off...

A Killing Art - The Untold Story of Tae Kwon Do

Hi All,

I have just finished reading "A Killing Art - The Untold Story of Tae Kwon Do" and i must admit having just taken up TaeKwon-Do I had no idea the amount of politics that was involved during the founding years, it was an eye opener to say the least :wow: but a good read all the same, and very informative.

Has anyone else read this ? and what was your opinion of the book ?

Bo staff or ''a can of worms''

Recently someone wrote about their love of the Bo staff and people went a bit ballistic...

But thinking about it, the term Bo staff has a paticular meaning that may not be obvious to all. Bo staffs are ~6 feet long and stiff (white oak or...)

Jo staffs are shorter ~4 feet long but similar material.

My chinese waxwood staff is about 6 foot long but it's whippy and has a spring to it.

My 6 1/2 point pole is closer to 8 foot long and it's stiffness is somewhere between the two others.

I would venture a guess that a quarter staff would be different again.

So since this is 'weapons' let's talk about different staffs, their qualities and uses!!

An odd thing at my WTF TKD school. Thoughts?

I am training at a WTF TKD school. However, there seems to be some irregularities in what we are taught, and I am hoping I can dig up some info to make sure that everything is kosher. :)

I am aware that WTF requires use of the Tae Guk forms. However, is there a minimum number of forms that are required? We learn 4 forms before learning Koryo. That is all that appears to be required for the black belt testing (in regards to Poomse, at least).

Kicking appears to be adequate, based on what I have seen online, but the primary focus in class seems to be sparring. Just about every class session ends with 15-20 minutes of sparring, every class session.

There is also no weapons training. Not sure if that is standard or not, and honestly I'm not that concerned about it, but in general it just seems a bit odd.

Any thoughts?

Note: I have seen his certs from the Kukkiwon, they are on the wall, and current.

Successful Youth Weekend! Son's First Tom!

As most of you know this past weekend was New York's youth season prior to the start of the month long spring hunt. This year my son had the opportunity to go at it with me for two days. And did we use all two days to get it done! Saturday was just a god awful day. Cold, rainy, windy conditions made it tough. Not a whole lot of turkey activity. We did have a nice bird come in about mid morning. He came to our set at about 40 yards hard. All at once he locked up the brakes and decided that the two camo clad lumps at the bottom of the apple tree didn't belong there. He whirled around and did a fast 180 back out of there.

Sunday morning the front had pushed through and brought much better conditions. We had birds gobbling off the roost bright and early this morning. I may not be the best turkey hunter in the world but I believe that I can hold my own pretty dam well. Suffice to say that these birds have been nothing but skittish and wary for two days. Nothing came to the field off the roost today so we decided at 7:00 AM to take it to the birds. We started out on this little creek bottom and immediately got a tom to answer. We staked the hens and pulled up a big ol' maple tree to sit under. The bird came in real fast. He was to our left and 40 yards out. He looked at the decoys and started to come. For whatever reason he just continued straight and never stopped. Passed behind us at 20 feet and never provided a shot.

We had a couple of more encounters throughout the morning but nothing close. A little before 10:00 AM I decided to head back to my place and hunt two locations that have produced late in the mornings. We struck out from the truck and within 100 yards we are on birds. We went back and forth with the two toms and the hen for an hour and 20 minutes. I knew that those toms were not going to part ways with the hen. I told Zack we had one more card to play but we would have to hoof it pretty quick. We headed to an area I call the sand field. We walked a wet bottom into the middle of the field and threw out some yelps which were immediately responded to by a couple of jakes. We took a position in the hedgerow and started calling hoping that it might happen before the noon hour.

The jakes came out to our left and on the northwest side of the hedge. They were about 100 yards out. As soon as they came into the field I could tell they were nervous. I just couldn't pull them around the corner into the finger we were set up in. They went back into the wood lot to the north and continued to gobble. With time winding down I told Zack we had one final play and that was to move to out flank the jakes. At this point I didn't care if he harvested a full strutter or a jake. The kid put in a tremendous effort and I wanted him to be rewarded.

We just got to our feet and we hear a bird not 50 yards in front us sound the alert. He was in the brush so we couldn't tell what it was. So much for the final play. If it was going to happen it was going to happen right where we were. I set to making some gathering calls to calm the birds. A new gobble came from the unseen bird and then a fourth tom just to the north of him sounded off. We know had 4 toms in the immediate area and time was running out.

Watching the green finger of field I see the blue head and fan of a nice tom coming right towards us. I whispered in Zack's ear and got him on target. The safety came off and he leveled the sight on the birds head. He walked in at us in full strut and gobbling the whole way. I was just about to tell Zack to drop him when the bird bolted into the brush for no reason whatsoever.

He runs off a bit and gobbles some more. This fires up the other 3 birds and now all 4 are just singing one right after the other. The unseen bird now comes into the field 45 yards in front of us. He takes one look around and ducks right back into the brush that he just came out of. Now the strutter is coming back a second time! I told Zack that as soon as I think he is in range that he is going to take the shot. Well here he comes right back on the same track he was on the first time. At 35 yards I cut real hard and real loud. He breaks from his strut and picks up his head. I tell Zack to kill him. Nothing. No shot. Oh my god my mind is raising!

Zack's barrel caught a small vine and he couldn't bring it on target. The tom drops his head and keeps walking from our left to the right. Zack clears the vine and gets back on the bird. Again I cut and up comes the head. I told him to let it go. At the shot he rolls the tom and I run over and secure him. What a great shot from a kid using a 20 gauge at 35 yards on a really nice bird who has never taken any game animal in his life. The shot was made at 11:52! 8 minutes left in the day!

The beard measured 10.75 inches, the spurs were 7/8's each and he weighed in at 17 pounds. I have shot lots of turkeys through the years, but I can honestly say that not one of those birds compared to the joy that I saw in my son's face today. As a father to two of the greatest kids in the world I was yelling and whooping it up like a lunatic in that field. We hugged and high fived and carried on like a couple of fools for 15 minutes. Priceless memory made today.

I have to give my son some serious adoration for this hunt. He busted his ass for 2 days and not once complained for the miles we walked, the cold we endured, the missed opportunities, the rain or getting up at 4:00 AM to get the job done. Step for step he marched beside me and earned his trophy. I cannot be any prouder of how hard this young man worked. To be rewarded with 8 minutes left just made it that much sweeter.

Check out this smile just after he got his tom! Kind of say's it all in his face!

A Second Start

Yesterday UpstateDave and I had an opportunity to meet up and fish. We didn’t figure a couple of old guys needed to get up too early at this point in the season so we met at our intended trailhead at 8AM. There were three vehicles at said trailhead and all looked like they had recently transported fishermen.

No worries, out came the maps. There are several ponds we’d been meaning to try. We picked two and flipped the proverbial coin. The first 150 yards of the bushwack were terrible – thick, low saplings, bog and blowdowns. Then we found the informal trail… At the end of the day said trail ended 10 feet from the front fender of Dave’s car, proving old guys lose their navigation skills.

Our pond was not only ice free but has been for a while, judging by the 48 degree surface temperature. I was pretty quickly into a nice, full bodied 16” female. No photo – as I picked her up out of the net for the pic she flipped free and made her escape.

We both thought this would be a great day but went hours before Dave hooked and landed another 16”er, this one a male. We got a picture of him in the net but he also flipped free before the picture we wanted, proving old guys have slippery hands or have lost their reflexes entirely.

All in all, though a grand day out and the precursor to many more. There are worse things to do in life than float around in an icy pond anticipating a strike from a fish you think might be there though right now I can’t think of a good example.

Is it Good Lumbering Practice?

About 7 years ago Finch Pruyn lumbered our lease property. They used a big machine to cut the timber. Because of wet spots they laid down a layer of branches and limbs along the logging roads. Its not much better off the roads either.

Seven years later its still hard to walk without breaking an ankle. Is this considered best practice? Its hard to sightsee when you constantly have to look where you walk. Its very unsightly too.

Are there any benefits to this procedure? Anyone else have this problem?

Standing Arm Crank

SPOILER ALERT UFC 167

Jones did the standing arm crank and it was pretty cool, what shocked me is that on all the MMA forums people are acting like they've never seen it before? It's definitely more of a Kali thing I guess.

I'll post a gif when I'm home in a few hours (:

Route 8 Ruins, 27 Apr 2014

The stars must have aligned perfectly once again as I was able to head out again with my daughter to explore some old ruins. This time Tredhed accompanied us to a few sites on Rt. 8 in Griffin and Oregon.

We first poked around the Griffin Tannery site looking for artifacts from the good old days. I had been there before, but just passing through on my way to Extract Brook and the interior of the SPWA. This was a pleasant excursion, right off the road, that let us poke around the old foundations a little. There was plenty of old iron and brick to keep us busy. Of course, no trip to Griffin is complete without a walk down to the falls. The water was really moving.

After an hour or so at Griffin, we headed up to the Hudnut Estate at Oregon. Parking at the most southern designated campsite, we walked across a fallen bridge to the site of this 19th Century Mansion, also called Fox Lair. After passing a few old foundations, we hiked up the staircase to the house site. It was very impressive. We noted the huge amount of water pipes strewn about as well as the old septic tank. The old Oregon Tannery site was also visible in the brush down by the East Branch.

After admiring the views of Black Mt. and Square Falls Mt. it was time to head to town for lunch. Not a bad couple of hours poking around some old ruins. These last couple weekends with my daughter have opened my eyes to see things a little differently than before. It's not just peaks and ponds. There's a lot more to this special place we all enjoy so much.

Competed in another Interclub

Competed in another Interclub yesterday, at Thai-Tanium in Leicester, taking two fights on the day to help out the hosts.

The first fight was light contact only as I was asked to fill a spot for a girl from Thanapron Muay Thai who was 80kg, looking to have a go for her first time, and needed matching.

The second fight was more full on against a Polish competitor from White Eagle.

Enjoy.

This will be my last Interclub level event now as I spend the next four weeks focusing on getting ready for my first decision fight in May in Ashby De La Zouch.

Hudson/ Indian river confluence: now open?

I've read bits and pieces about the Essex Chain of Lake NYS purchase of land over the past year; does anyone know if this now means that one could drive down the Chain Lakes road in Indian Lake ,park and hike along the river all the way to the confluence? (I believe this area was previously posted by the Gooley Club as you got close to the confluence). Thanks.

Seia Ryu

Soke mentions Seia Ryu in the Koto Ryu chapter in the "Unarmed Fighting Techniques of the Samurai", and that Seia means "The Frog in the Water Well".

Anyone know anything about this?

Hello Intro

Hi all,

New to the forums here, my son (aged 4) started the Little Tiger Cubs program with UKTC in our area and loved it so much that I decided to give it a go myself. Two weeks into studying Taekwon-Do and I can honestly say I am really enjoying it. Was a bit apprehensive about starting at my age (31) but have been made feel most welcomed in my 2 weeks of attendance so far.

Hope to be around in here for a while and speak to you all regular. :D :kick:

Maybe someone could help me, how to you add a signature to your messages ? I was unable to find anything in my profile settings ?

First Camping Trip to the ADK (stillwater)

Looking to camp in the ADKs this year. Went up toward stillwater reservoir, made it to the boat launch and had a hard time figuring out which roads I was allowed to use to try and explore passed that point. Everything seemed closed and no information was posted that really helped me find a spot that i can both camp and fish.

Kobudo Classes in Glasgow?

Hey. After recieving some advice on my last thread, I've tried looking about for some Kobudo classes in Glasgow. :D I really like the look of some classes I've seen in videos and I'm particularily interested in learning to use a Bo/Jo (although other weapons do like interesting as well).

Although, I've had some difficulty finding a class. It seems there are much more options in the north of England, which is really too far for me to travel.

Does anyone know of any Kobudo classes in Glasgow? Perhaps even trainers that come to you? I really hope I can find a way to make this happen. :)
