Ferris Lake

Hi--Had heard (and read) that landowners allowed hikers to hike the road to Ferris Lake. Some of the land is privately held --but the lake is not. Walked most of the way down the road today until we came to a closed gate and many signs saying 'no trespassing- and one sign that said "The Wataga(?) Club"--has anyone been to this lake?
