I celebrated the opening of trout season by ice fishing. Went to Canada Lake where ice fishing is allowed and caught the big Skunkeroo. Saw about 6 fish come up off the bottom to look at my jigs, but I couldn't get them to commit. There is about 3 feet if ice--about 16 inches of white ice and the rest solid black. The top 4 or 5 inches had thawed yesterday and refroze overnight. We were able to walk on top going out, but were walking in about 5 inches of slush heading in. The warm weather coming up ought to put a dent in the ice but much will depend upon how cold the nights get. Ice out is still quite a ways off. It was a glorious day to be out in God's creation today though--a beautiful day with blue skies. Hope they die hard stream fishermen found some fishable water--the streams & rivers I saw yesterday were high and discolored.
