N. Branch Moose River access from North St?

I was looking at Paddling In The Adirondacks, which I had gotten from the library, and it says that there is access to the North Branch from North St. in Old Forge. I looked at my NG map and at Google maps and all three maps are quite different in where they show the road going and where there is state land in there. I would like to put in there if that is possible, it looks like it could be a nice spot to start in either direction without being as far off 28 as the Carter Rd put-in or being right in downtown Old Forge. Having state land at the put in would make it possible for me to hide my bicycle there too, which would be handy. I will be grateful for any clarification as I a feeling a bit confused at present.
