Lake Placid Area; Grouse

It looks like I'll be in Lake Placid over Thanksgiving and free on "Black Friday" to roam the woods. I'm not familiar with the area all that much so I'm soliciting suggestions for a day hike in an area that might harbor some grouse. Something off the heavily trodden path or even a bushwhack so I can bring along my 410. I'd appreciate any suggestions or two. Feel free to PM me.
