Back to it

In the midsts of all the new folk:

So i've started back at BJJ again and im hoping to stick with it for as long as possible because i have quality coaching only minutes away.

It's been a while but i definitely feel more mature about it than i did before but thats leading to a little frustration that i probably shouldn't be annoyed about:

I used to be fast at a scramble but that lead to lots and lots of holes in technical development.

I've stopped lifting for a good while now and have lost a good deal of strength and i've realised how much i need to focus on technical development.

So i've tried to so down and not rush a scramble and focus on things i've learnt in class rather than rolling for rolling's sake.

But this is annoying sometimes because i know in the back of my head that if i scrambled for it as fast as the other guy did, i would have gained some advantage or at least not such a crappy position.

Are there anyway you find of keeping yourselves motivated on technical stuff (goal setting etc)?

Avoiding a scramble has also made me very tentative about about following through on things (e.g. i've caught set ups for takedowns and havent followed them through).

How do you strike a balance between technical improvement and speed of movement?
