Cascade Lake

Woke up to rain so I threw gear in the car and headed north until I found snow in the air and a plowed parking lot near a trailhead. Cascade Lake, outside of Eagle Bay, was where I found both.

Anticipating having to break trail, I was pleasantly surprised that it had been broken out the day before. Skied in those tracks until they stopped at the back side of the lake. Trying to go any further showed me how lucky I was someone had been through before me - too deep and too heavy to make any headway. So, I stashed my skis and strapped on snowshoes and bushwhacked to the lake's edge.

Beautiful day and beautiful snow. Even though it still looks and feels like winter, the birds are singing a different tune.
