I am looking to improve my backyard training. The focus of my training is to become well rounded, while paying special attention to certain tools and pointers to street defense. The core of my training is sparring. I use my foundation in wing chun and jeet kune do as a base for cross training. I use whats called the JKD baijong stance for training, and practice mirroring as well with a left lead to left led opponents or right lead to right led opponents. I pratice WC chisau drills and stop-hits like biuda, taunda, gongda, wuda and pakda. I also practice stop-kicks using mostly low front snapping toe kick, low roundhouse or hook kick, and shuffling side kick. I only kick below the waist. I practice countering, offense and defense. I practice punching, kicking, trapping/grappling and ground fighting. I am told I can not call my way of training JKD for whatever reason, but I enjoy the concept of intercepting and total freedom. If people say I have no style and that I am artless, then I am happy because that is what I am aiming for. I also practice knife fighting, and firearms training, and a few gun disarms, which I learned from Krav Maga videos on a 60" inch screen TV, and reading Jujutsu books. I dont practice demonstrations, preset sequences or choreographed routines. I dont practice forms, and I only practice a few stances without moving postures, a majority of my training is in fluid actions based on disciplined reflexes, using my own fight or flight reaction as part of the movement or response. I practice grabbing, pushing, pulling, tripping, trapping, locks and throws.I practice from the half guard and full guard. My knowledge of techniques is limited but I favor lead hand/lead foot feints and combos for baiting, trapping and striking. I would consider myself a striker and standup fighter first, with grappling as a secondary side measure. If I had to compare my style to an animal it would be a cotton mouth snake, otherwise known as the water moccasin. Unlike the other snake styles, the water snake gives off no vibe or signal, it will swim or slither, and unlike other snakes, it will chase you. I learned from watching the water snake in nature, there are hundreds here. I practice walking and leg exercises, stretching and light weight training.I dont practice heavy weight lifting or excessive activity. My training is as much a part of my day as work, and I find a way to include it into all of my daily activities. I was told this is a good thing.
After some consideration, recently thinking about conflict prevention. I dont want to fight if I dont have to. I urge passive training and body conditioning before sparring full contact. I am better at defense than offense, and that is something I advocate.
Any advice, opinio.s, input, or helpful,/useful information which might help me improve? I said all this to give you a better idea of what direction I'm trying to go.
