I have the entire week off for the 4th of July and I'm hoping to spend some time up in the Adirondacks. Right now, my plan is to spend a night backpacking with a group Saturday 6/28 to Sunday 6/29, head up to the High Peaks and hike Monday 6/30, and then I still have Tuesday and half a day Wednesday to fill before heading home before the crowds start showing up. I'm planning on staying at the Keene Valley hostel while in the High Peaks.
I just recently purchased a kayak and am thinking about bringing it with me for a day trip or two. It's a Perception Conduit 13 which is not a touring kayak but its on the touring end of recreational kayaks. Are there any areas around Keene Valley with good paddling? I can always drive up to Lake Placid and paddle around there. I don't mind driving a little bit to reach a good paddling area. I have the Adirondack Paddler's map but it doesn't reach all the way down to Keene Valley. Any suggestions?
