First, is jeet kune do and mixed martial arts the same thing? They use different terminology, but both have no forms, both have 4 ranges and 5 ways of attack training. Both have sparring, video training and cross training. Both can be practiced in the studio, the gym, or the backyard. Both require at least one other person to train with. So whats the difference, besides having different languages?
Is it possible for 5 people, all students of various ranks in different styles, to learn JKD on their own by training, sparring, hanging out and exchanging information, learning together through freestyle light contact (or full contact with protective gear) wrestling and sparring in the backyard? Say three of them came from different schools having 3 distinct lineages connected to bruce lees original LA students (-namely ted wong, richard bustillo and jerry poteet, all certified in JKD under dan inosanto)? Lets say that those same five students focussed on a blend of 5 different styles, like wing chun, kali, judo, jujutsu, and taekwondo, would they be able to research JKD on their own, by carefully reading, watching, and experimenting with different techniques?
