I got to thinking a few days ago about what I've learned since starting CHKD and then the SS Kickboxing. When I was 8 years old I took 2 months of TKD. I remember thinking that because I took that, it meant I could beat up anyone I wanted. Sadly, for most kids, they think that way until they actually get into any sort of sparring where they are getting punched and kicked on a regular basis by someone better. Of course, I have gotten good at taking plenty of hits, but I'm still learning and now moving into my 4th month of private training I just notice my different approach in general to both my MA work and my family/everyday life.
1. I learned quickly that you are never going to be the toughguy you see in the movies that maybe you looked up to as a kid.
2. The risk of fighting out of pride is stupid... even if you win... you still lose.
3. The worst thing that could happen is for me to use what I have learned unless it's a last resort SD situation.
4. ALWAYS know there is someone better than you.
5. You never know who you are up against... choose your battles wisely (if you choose battle).
6. Self confidence of training and knowing what you can do can help to prevent a problem more than cause one.
7. How much effort you put forth is how much you can expect to gain.
8. Don't plan out things you would do, that's not likely the way they would go in real life.
9. I love MT, but I hate to jump rope.
10. Don't ever ever kick like a girl (for aaradia)
